Weekend thread: Pumpkin Spice Latte Edition (Sept 28th-30th)
« on: September 28, 2018, 02:16:14 PM »
Hi all,

Hope everyone had a great week! Let's get this started "early".

These two shots are from last weekend, near my friend's (on second picture) apartment, since I am in the process of apartment hunting, or at least prospecting to move out next year. Shot on the Bronica ETRSi with the 75mm 2.8 "kit" lens.

Nice start Miguel, make sure your new apartment is in a photogenic neighborhood.  This is the Umpqua Lighthouse in Winchester Bay, Oregon.  I stuffed a sheet of expired 4X5 Kodak Super-XX Pan film into my 800 Polaroid Land Camera, developed in Beer.

Cactus butt.  ;D

Been using my Kinoflex (Halina Prefect by another name) lately. Fun camera. Sturdier than a Holga or Diana, but still loaded with the toy effects.

I love Flippy's cactus butt ;D and Kai's artistic use of what was once surveillance film :D

I had a photoshoot last week with a singer/songwriter/guitar player/bandleader I sometimes play with, who goes by Radiator King (the name of his band). Very enjoyable Tom Waits-y Americana if you're interested in looking him up. First shot on XP2 (dev'd in C41, scanned in color), second on Tri-X. Both on my Pentax ME Super with a 50mm/1.7 lens.

Great shots Satish! I've never tried XP2 but Miguel gave me a roll a while back so now I'm on the hook. :-)

As a former Saab owner Flippy's pics make me want another. They're just so cool, and he's always showing his in a beautiful light.

Thanks Satish! About the XP2, I have done a few 120 rolls that I have not scanned yet. It's my first test with XP2, exiting!

And they're so easy to work on. Quality all the way.

Thanks. The blue car is a '68 I picked up this spring for $100. The owner, who was an avid collector, had died three years ago and his wife was clearing the property. He had about 10 old cars, most though had been sat outside for decades. She sent them all to the crusher, but I convinced her to save the Saab for me. A local Saab collector went through his barn and scooped up most of the parts stash, but a lot of old stuff just got thrown away.

My '69 is still running strong.

Jeff, Kai, XP2 is so so good. You can shoot it anywhere from ISO 100 (I hear) to 1600 (I've tried) and develop it NORMALLY in C41 and it looks amazing. See my thread here. And you can develop it in B&W chemicals, too, of course, and stand develop it, or do whatever you please. Basically, you can shoot it however the hell you want and develop it however the hell you want and it looks amazing :D However, it costs $2/roll more than Tri-X, and I love Tri-X almost as much as I love XP2, so...... ;D

And the nice thing with xp2 is that when you process it in c41, you can scan it with digital ICE enabled.
The only thing I don't like about it is that it's really hard to get focused when using an enlarger and a grain focuser. All you see are splotches of gray dye ::)

That's interesting. I barely had an issue with the focusing on the enlarger when printing some XP2. I had a bit of a trial and error with contrast (ended up using a #4 Multigrade filter for what I wanted) but other than that, no problem at all. It is extremely fine-grained though.

Funny thing, same day I developed a roll of XP2, I also developed a roll of Tri-X (120) in C41 chems because I thought it was a roll of Portra 400. It came out relatively fine, however, some of the emulsion was breaking down.

You're talking about the XP2 or the Tri-X ;)

He means the Tri-X, and it did come out surprisingly well ... I always thought that B&W emulsions melt right off at C41 temps...

I always thought that the bleach fix step would just plain strip all available silver from the emulsion....

I developed as normal, considering that I thought it was a Portra 400 roll.

This is how they came out:

Do you happen to remember if you shot the 3200 at box speed here.
I just ordered some 3200 to try in my Holga for an upcoming road trip.
thanks!
