Share The Love 4
« on: November 15, 2014, 01:06:35 AM »
With all this talk lately about having too many cameras I think it's time for another "Share The Love".

These are the rules as Francois put it last time:

For all those who are new here (as in haven't played the game before), this has been a staple of the site on an irregular basis. And there are rules needed to make it work well.
I put up for adoption a piece of photographic gear. It can be anything that will fit through the mail. The first one who wants it claims the item but must put up for adoption another item. Think of it as a gear exchange train.

Eg.: Frank puts a camera which is adopted by Mark who puts an exposure meter which is claimed by Amy who puts a grain focuser which is adopted by.....

So, try and not put up some "Local Pickup Only" items.

If an item sticks for a few days because nobody wants it, you can switch it for something else. Just try and keep the exchange going for as long as possible.

Shipping is negotiated privately between the parties. Items are not sold in any way, it's just a trade.

To get this going I'm putting up for adoption an Argus C3 Rangefinder with a roll of Kodak Max 400 (expired 2007).  I will pay postage worldwide to get this started on the right foot.  I have not run film through it but everything seems to function properly.

I hope to be able to join once things heat up. As it is I am not looking for another camera, rather getting rid of some. Good of you to get it off to a start Bryan.

You never know, sometimes little cool gadgets come by...
But on that Argus, it is really a tough camera. They were often said to be the American Leica. While they ain't as refined as their German counterparts, it really says a lot about their robustness. And the lenses are some of the last ones said to give swirling bokeh.

So who will be the lucky one that will get a change to put his paws on such a fine specimen of Made in Ann Arbor Michigan gear?

That Argus is a fine looking thing, and I'd love it if I'm not too late?

I've not taken part in this before, so does film count? I have a block of 10 rolls of T-Max 400 (in date - refrigerated) if someone wants it!

I'll take Nigel's film and offer up a Holga 120N.

I bought the Holga to see whether the toy camera "thing" was for me.  I've used it to shoot 3 or 4 rolls of film (no more).  It's "mint" condition and I'll put up postage and packaging to wherever is necessary.  I don't dislike the camera but the toy camera look is definitely not my cup of Earl Grey.

So yes, the great deal on T-Max is gone-gone-gone!

We now have a mint Holga 120N.
That is the standard trouble free model. Built so that nothing can really go very wrong with it.

Who will be the taker? This is an incredible deal since postage is included. The perfect opportunity to get ready for next year's World Toy Camera Day!

Oooh, I would take the Holga but I'd feel guilty for a year if someone spent more on postage than on the camera. :)

I also have this problem, I need to get rid of more gear than I receive. That's a completely different strategy, I think.

a brand new Holga with a few rolls of 120 to get you started.
You can't get better than that!

Just look at how much you'd pay for something similar elsewhere?

Great stuff.  If you can PM me your name and address, I'll get the (as new) Holga and 2 rolls of 120 film (not sure what I've got in the fridge at the moment but it'll be 400 ISO and probably out of date) off to you at the weekend.

Well, since I believe that looking at good photography is of almost same importance than actually producing images, my offering in this run of Share The Love is bookish. And I give you two, well, three options.
You may choose one of these: Aspects of Expression by Paul Gallagher - fantastic BW (film-made) imagery with good insights as well as some useful tips for computer post-processing or if you are of colour persuasion you may pick up the well known Landscape Beyond by David Ward - great photographs (also film made, I believe) with some thoughtful and inspiring writing. Choose either of these and I'll cover the postage within EU. OR you may take both of them, but in that case I'd ask you to contribute to the shipping costs.
Both books have obviously been read but they are in very good condition. Hope someone will enjoy them!

I'll happily take both books and pay a contribution to postage  :D

My offering is a choice of three cameras, or all three if you want to pay postage. I have never used any of them but as far as I am aware they all work. Here they are:

This is a lovely little Minolta 16 model P. It’s tiny and beautiful and I adore it. The problem is that I don’t have any film for it and don’t know how to get it developed, so I've never used it.

The camera below is a Kollor. It’s a medium format camera that I have no real idea how to use. I can load a film and take pictures with it but the lens barrel extends and I have no idea why. You look through the viewfinder but it is not connected in any way to the lens. It does look quite nice though, a bit tarnished here and there to be fair, but it’s an interesting looking thing. That’s the only reason I bought it. I didn’t need it, didn’t ever use it, I just liked the look of it.

This Canon M70 is a lovely little thing. Released in 1970, It takes a 126 film cartridge, which I have no idea where to get or develop either so another camera I have never used. I just wanted it.

Any takers?

Sure, why not.  By the way, that Koroll looks like it may qualify as a toy camera, fixed aperture and fixed shutter speed.

I have a Koroll II, a slightly newer version of the Koroll S camera being offered, and it definitely has a toy camera vibe to it.  I recall looking at both of them and I believe the Koroll S has the option of switching from 6x6 and 3x4.5. The Koroll II is not a complicated camera and easy enough to open. I imagine the S is similar though the collapsible lens is a bit odd. In the Koroll II it is very easy to accidentally take multiple exposures which might appeal to some people. I'd be surprised if the Koroll S didn't have this feature / failure.  Definitely a fun camera if you are so inclined.

Here's an example of an accidental multiple shot I did when I ran some 35mm film through the Koroll II (using these adapters -  http://www.youmagine.com/designs/35mm-film-on-120-spool):

On the Kodak Instamatic 500, the lens collapses just for convenience/compactness. There is no optical function, but the shutter won't fire with the lens 'in'. Maybe this is the same on the Koroll.

I'm offering a Kodak Brownie Starflex, with manual and 5 rolls of very expired 127 film.

The Kodak Starflex is a fixed focus 4x4 medium format camera with a legendary Dakon lens. The camera has 2 shutter speeds for color and B&W. Has a handy folding "sports finder" wire-frame on the bottom. It has connections for a flash which sadly I don't have. I've never used the camera but the shutter fires and appears to be working correctly. Pretty simple camera though I'm sure someone out there on FW could easily make some nice images with it. Along with this camera I'm including 2 rolls of Kodak Gold 200 (expired 09/1990), 2 of Ektachrome 64 (expired 07/1978), and one Kodacolor-X (expired 07/1972).

Makes an excellent Christmas gift:

The neat thing about a Koroll S is that the lens bezel unscrews easily, so if you don't like ordinary Holgaesque shots you can either reverse the lens or fit a pinhole.  I keep mine for these purposes.  Definitely a toy.

Pinhole with Delta 3200, handheld.

The lens extends so that the shutter button can engage with the shutter.

I can't believe nobody wants it!
The feds are way underrated. Lenses are incredibly good and very contrasty, almost up to Leica standards. They use Leica Thread Mounts, can be easily fitted to Leicas and Voigtlanders. And the camera itself can be fixed with just a simple flat head screwdriver! The body is completely derived from the Leica II and is mechanically very similar in many ways. A good camera in itself.

I'll take the Fed.

I will offer a fully functional Yashica Minimatic-C. This is a nice auto rangefinder. The meter works, the shutter is really quiet and the film advance is like butter!

I took this with it.
