As alluded to elsewhere on these pages, I wanted to try out TMax just for the hell of it. And I think I like it! Maybe better than Tri-X ... it seems to like skies and clouds better, a little contrastier, as if I already had a yellow filter on it (these were taken on my XA, so no filters). I tried using HC100 dil H 9min like Tri-X, but it looks like TMax needs a little more development time. Kodak recommends 6min at dil B, so I guess 12min for dilH? I have another roll I'll try that on, then I gotta burn through my brick of Tri-X and maybe return to TMax after that.
Indofunk - it's really weird you should say that I've just been through exactly the same process and, although the jury's still out, I think I'm going to come to almost the opposite conclusion. I've developed mine in HC-110, although I used dilution B, and I felt that mine were a little less contrasty than Tri-X. Contrast is what I'm after. I know Kodak recommend the TMax developer and I wondered if that was the problem.
My real issue is I was using Tri-X (which I liked) when I fell head-over-heals for Neopan 400 - about four weeks before Fuji announced they were discontinuing it. I thought about buying a stock for the fridge - but that always feels a bit like building your house on shifting sand. So I thought maybe TMax is the nearest alternative, but it's not working for me at the moment. I have about a dozen rolls in the fridge, if you weren't on a different continent I might suggest doing a trade for some Tri-X.
