I went to my favourite place to test my newly acquired camera Fuji GA645 Pro - the fishing port Kantrida.
I had just Fomapan 400 120 films in my fridge , so I took 2 rolls and off I went to Kantrida. I developed
the first one in Rodinal 1+50 and the second one in D76 stock. I didn't like the Rodinal one and I liked
the D76 one a bit more, but both were too grainy for my taste and especially the Rodinal one.
Judge yourselves: the first image is developed inRodinal and the second in D76. What would be the perfect
match for Fomapan 400? I've got two other developers for you to chose the favourite -TMAX developer
and Promicrol.
I prefer the one developed in D76. Nothing "wrong" with either photo, IMO, but the second shot seems to have a much more graduated set of tones than the shot with the cat. I've tried Fomapan in the past and I found it okay - but a bit too grainy for my liking (or maybe it was the type of grain, dunno...)
Digitaltruth.com suggests that TMax chemicals should be okay - 7-8 mins @ 20 degrees.. Maybe worth a punt.
My "go to" film for the last few years has been Ilford XP2 Super. This has the benefit of being able to be developed in C41 or traditional chemistry. It's also got lots of latitude, However, by way of an experiment, I'm just about to have a go with Ilford Delta (100 and 400) using MF kit. Ilford suggests that grain from Delta 400 is equivalent to 100 ISO films from other manufacturers.
