Weekend 28th, February - 2nd, March
« on: February 28, 2014, 07:27:12 AM »
The first image was taken with the Zenit 12xp and Mir-1 37mm f2,8 and the second with Canon Datematic.
Both were exposed on the Kodak Tri-X 400 and developed with Rodinal 1+50.

I'm not sure why I use good cameras to take crappy snaps when a crappy camera will do just as well!

Toots Wilson wrestling with his 4x5 in a howling wind. Snapped with P&S Pentax Epsio / polypan-f @ 200 and Rodinal. Eh?

A very opportunistic grab-shot to see how effective the X-Pan is at street shooting. Well, it is a rangefinder....but the lenses aren't exactly "fast"  :-\

Lovely shots Bryan.  Not sure if we'll get there this year but we want to take a leisurely drive down the Mississippi from Nashville, via Clarksdale, Memphis and any other points of interest until we hit New Orleans.  I may be on the scrounge for information..... ;)

Thanks, you just listed 3 of my favorite cities for live music, Nashville, Memphis and New Orleans.  Sounds like fun.

Shots 2 & 3 is beautiful Elena on her first surf lessons  ;D

Got a few street shots for this weekend's thread.

First one shot with the OM-2 (sorry. mcduff, I can't help myself!) and TriX, second with the Lubitel 166B and Pan F, both souped in Caffenol (just not at the same time ;) )

Flumian, how do you get such great results with Tri-X and Rodinal? Tell me your secrets! Mine always come out super-grainy, but yours look nice and smooth! Maybe it's my scanner...

Interestingly, I don't get always exactly the same result. I blame my "el cheapo" thermometer. I use Kaiser developing tank with a good lid
and agitate 3 reversals at the beginning and later on one reversal every 30 seconds. also, a good 100ml or 50ml measuring cup is needed
to measure the Rodinal part precisely.

I went to my favourite place to test my newly acquired camera Fuji GA645 Pro - the fishing port Kantrida.
I had just Fomapan 400 120 films in my fridge , so I took 2 rolls and off I went to Kantrida. I developed
the first one in Rodinal 1+50 and the second one in D76 stock. I didn't like the Rodinal one and I liked
the D76 one a bit more, but both were too grainy for my taste and especially the Rodinal one.

Judge yourselves: the first image is developed inRodinal and the second in D76. What would be the perfect
match for Fomapan 400? I've got two other developers for you to chose the favourite -TMAX developer
and Promicrol.

Again, lots of great stuff. Kevin, your roses give me the excuse to pull one of those $5 words out of my back pocket from when I was an art student: very Chiarascuro  ;)

So this shot is a first in a few ways -- certainly not the first time I have photographed these poor frozen bikes, haha. It is my first scan off of Tech Pan and the first time I have used Rodinal (Mike leant me some as it seemed to be viewed as an acceptable if not ideal dev for tech pan).

I have more to scan from this roll so I might get a few more on line before the end of the weekend.

Technical Pan test by mcduff!, on Flickr

The negs were a bit thin but I liked the results. Any techpan/rodinal users out there I can PM with questions? In fact if there are any techpan users out there in general, I wouldnt mind knowing if the negs are thinner (when not processed for its intended high contrast) than what I may be used to (with my baseline of FP4+). Perhaps a PM may be the best way to respond so I do not hijack this thread  :)

I prefer the one developed in D76. Nothing "wrong" with either photo, IMO, but the second shot seems to have a much more graduated set of tones than the shot with the cat. I've tried Fomapan in the past and I found it okay - but a bit too grainy for my liking (or maybe it was the type of grain, dunno...)

Digitaltruth.com suggests that TMax chemicals should be okay - 7-8 mins @ 20 degrees.. Maybe worth a punt.

My "go to" film for the last few years has been Ilford XP2 Super.  This has the benefit of being able to be developed in C41 or traditional chemistry.  It's also got lots of latitude,  However, by way of an experiment, I'm just about to have a go with Ilford Delta (100 and 400) using MF kit.  Ilford suggests that grain from Delta 400 is equivalent to 100 ISO films from other manufacturers.

Thank you for your input, Paul. I like the idea to go with the TMax developer. I'm going to try that soon,
maybe even tomorrow, but  the weather forecast doesn't look very promising.

Now to spend my weekend messing with a X570 and a homebrewed 35mm panoramic back on the RB67 with a 65mm lens when it's not so rainy today.

Also, always love the weekend threads, gives us a reason to keep shooting, for what ever reason it my be.

Very nice platinum print Dave.

I´m taking the liberty of posting a couple this time around.

Weeks 7 and 8 of the 52 rolls a year project were dedicated pinholes, again.

First the ONDU. These were taken within two days of eachother, just goes to show that the climate is very different from coast to mountain. PanF+ in HC-110

Then my DIY 6x24 pinhole. It works quite well. Kodak TMX, also HC-110

^nice, that first pinhole is prettttty sweet. It seems pan-f is fairly popular amongst pinhole shooters.

My first shot needs some description, in Toronto we have horse mounted police. Not all the time, but usually evenings or morning hours to deal with the bar crowd. There is one inherit problem with using horses in the city though.

I feel lost among so many great pics, e.g. Beckys gorgeous end-of-the-world IR. What a fantastic show again.

Now here's a humble trial of available light shooting with "wrong" gear: p+s Konica Big-Mini, Polypan F EI 100, homemade Parodinal 1:50.
