Beginning the pleasant task of scanning through the nine rolls of negs I shot on my holiday.  Starting with some Delta 400 in Dublin....

A few from Maine taken with the Kodak Retina I got in trade from jojonas, all on Kentmere 100. I quite like the traditional look of this film, especially through the uncoated Schneider lens on the Retina.

Yesterday morning arrived my new toy, a Rolleiflex 2.8gx, I tried it yesterday evening and developed yesterday night... I took few snapshots to check if everything was working OK. yes, everything was working OK, I used the in camera light-meter.

The camera is in mint condition and, amongst other reasons, I bought it to find out if the 2.8gx was as bad as they said. First impression, quality, nothing to say, as good as my 2.8e, feeling, everything works with precision, but it´s true the shutter could be smoother, on the other hand it could be due to the fact that the camera has barely been used, the same goes for the focusing knob, but this I am getting more and more comfortable with it. The flare I was getting with the 2.8e is gone, good, I have the hood but I never use it. The multicoating does not seem to affect much the final result, may be the shots are a bit more contrasty, but not much. The screen is brighter and other than that is just an updated and hopefully reliable Rolleiflex. A mint Rolleiflex 2.8gx is expensive but I dare to say less expensive that a mint 2.8f one. on the other hand people seems to preffer the 2.8f, which, aesthetically, I agree is more appealing.

Alma´s shot (dim light), yes, she is painting her nails, is unedited, just barely sharpened.

these are some test shots, seems like some reflections going on... could the paper itself be to blame?

Nice work, all! I got a film scanner this week & have been pretty thrilled scanning some old negatives. This is from my very first roll of 120 film that the local lab I brought it to when I lived in NYC scanned masked down to rectangles for some reason. Now I can finally scan them as they were shot!

Here's one I'd forgotten all about. It was one of my first rolls with the Mamiya 645 Pro TL. Probably the 80mm lens. Can't remember the film. Probably Tri-X.

That's a nice photo of your daughter Calbisu. I think the GX is a great camera I know a couple of guys that use them and swear by them, having a bright screen, exposure meter and modern lens coating make it a very good package over a 1960's F
I think the detractors of the camera have never used one, and I understand why they like their whiteface F models.
Have you bought yourself a Rolleinar? I think that with the addition of that accessory the camera becomes a real portrait camera...
Have fun with your new toy.

Cobh is a really nice place - this was my first visit and only less
3 hours drive from where I live.

I think a lot of people have been there, it was the last stop
for the titanic on its doomed voyage.

Cobh [pronounced - Cove] was formerly called Queenstown also.

Hi Mark, thanks for your comment, I totally agree with you (being a new owner of the 2.8gx  ;D ;D ) As per the Rolleinar I was tempted some time ago but I know that when I am on the street I will not use it, so I will just try to get as close as possible, for close up portraits I use the Pentax 67 with an extension ring  8)

Two shots from iceland, some little street photography, first in a park second inside a coffe shop, veeery close to the lady with the Rolleiflex and my stupid 90º technique, you look to one side and the camera to a different side...  :'(

Yes the Rollei is a very good street camera, better than a RF for those 'unnoticed' shots. I still couldn't do without my Rolleinar, I suppose its personal but I find the lack of ability to go in really close hampers me.
It could be that my first 'serious' 120 camera was a Mamiya C330 which allowed me to do head shot work, The Rollei with it's 1m  close focus point just doesn't do it for me.
That said I have two Rolleiflex cameras, which are excellent for all manner of shooting styles the Rolleinar for me addresses the cameras biggest shortcoming–the lack of close focus.

It feels like a while ago, but last week I was on Lake Winnipeg, which is this cool, sleepy, unpretentious beach area in Manitoba. It is usually awesome in August there but this year the rain followed me west so there was few beaching days :'(

These are from Winnipeg Beach which is one of my fav spots in the area...

Hello all, long time no see, July has been manic and I am just catching my breath. Volunteered at the London-Edinburgh London Audax event a few weeks back (a long distance cycling challenge event in which cyclists cover 1400km within a time limit of 116hrs) and ran a roll of film through the Rollei B35 during a break.

Haha, Francois, I never really found out what 'non-modern' meant, I kept on looking for a commode from the 1820's but could not find it  ::)

That area is a really cool, and somewhat unappreciated part of Canada (that could be part of why it is nice, haha). I just recently started visiting there as my brother has married into the icelandic community where those that do not live there year round, have (reasonably affordable) cottages.

Winnipeg Lake is interesting and to me (a former student of geography) there are fascinating issues around how the area was settled and used as a vacation spot for Winnipeg folks. I was raised literally a couple of minutes walk from Lake Huron, and the Gimli area really reminds me of the sleepy beach life I knew as a kid in the 60's. Now personally, my heart belongs to certain portions of the shore of Lake Huron (which I hope to drive to this weekend) but the total, gestalt experience from Lake Winnipeg is kind of hard to beat.

Gimli is a cool town too, a favorite of canadian film maker Guy Maddin

Couldn't live without Rolleinars, you know.  And I wouldn't try - I love the effect.

A handful from Brecon Jazz last weekend.

I have a hazy old Canon 50/1.8 on my M2.  Really must chop it in for a Summicron some day.  These are Tri-x pushed to 800 in DDX.

Lovely, Andrea, and love the train, Nigel. They're a little loud at that distance, too! :) I'll join the train fray later as I chip away at my scanning.

Still experimenting scanning negs as negs vs negs as positives. Still too much fiddling with these "fiddly little negs" (Kentmere 100 in 35mm) but what else am I going to do with myself?
