Good article - thanks Aaron. It's nice to read about someone having an easy time with digital negs!  I've spent the last month testing, tweaking and laboriously building curves for Pt/Pd printing - and I'm only just getting there...

Excellent Aaron. Great timing as well - I'm expecting delivery of an r2400 soon so I'll be givin digi-negs another whirl.

Thanks, Aaron!  You the man  ;D  Hey, ever thought about teaching or technical writing as it applies to photography as an adjunct to fine art?

thanks everyone... it was fun.

yeah, but i can't see myself teaching... i'm a wreck in front of crowds.  i really wouldn't mind taking the writing route though.  i've been keeping myself available for anything like that.. i enjoy researching and writing and so forth and blah, blah, blah :)  but i'm a positive thinker... and i've got good karma.

The article is quite nice.

You don't need to step in front of hundreds. Just 2 or 3 at first shouldn't be intimidating. Start at lunch over a nice meal. Get to know the people personally and keep on chatting after dinner. People tend to be quite nice when they really want to learn something, not just follow some dumb class for school credits. All you need to do is be nice to them, they always give it back.
Since it is an hands on technique, just let your hands do the talking and answer the few questions people will ask.
Have people surround you, not confront you in a classroom. Build a "circle" of learning. People like circular exchanges. You might even learn something about some other photo process in the process (I know this sentence reads funny... but I can't seem to be able to fix it :) ).
I think you would be fine.

yeah, i hear ya.  :)  one of the many things i've learned through photography is that i should confront my fears with confidence.  i know i would enjoy it too, teaching that is.  i'm by no means qualified just yet to be a teacher, but i'm keeping my options open.  we'll see what happens... :)

thanks!

The worse teachers I ever had all had one thing in common: a teaching degree :)

Just in time!!  I just got a kit from the formulary that I am about to try out.  Have you tried the kit or did you just order the chemicals seperately??

i have not used the kit... but i have used the developer that is included in it (rochelle salt, borax).  that developer is a lot of fun because you can mix the two chemicals in different amounts to give your final print different tones (sepia, black, brown, purple).  i've also used the potassium dichromate which helps control the contrast in case your negative is a little thin.  just be sure to clear it well and it should last for many, many years.  if you wanted to tone it with gold or whatever you could order those chemicals seperately and just put it in between clearing and fixing for maximum permanence.

if you don't already know, here is a good place to help you out with the kit...

Just think of it as writing out loud.  Crowds are just a bunch of peeps like us.
