Hi Ed, thanks for the welcome back. Took a lot of shots: a few packs of polaroid, a few rolls of 36 exposure 35mm and a 100 or so digital shots (weeded down to about 50 on the plane ride back).
Just got back today, with considerable jet lag (as I expected). Developing film and scanning polaroid on tuesday this week (will post some on FW). Took 3 cameras w/me. 2 leicas (M3 and a d-lux 4) and a polaroid. Regret not taking the Plaubel, but since I was walking for 6 - 8 hours a day, my back appreciates the smaller cameras! If I had my way I would have packed a couple 6x6 cameras as well, but my spouse was insistent on 2 shoulder bags and one small suitcase to keep it simple.
I'll be putting up a standalone site from the trip and post a pointer to it since it will be a mixed bag of film and shots from the d-lux....
I thought I'd come home with a russian camera or two but found very few for sale: a antique shop in Vilnius' Old Town run by a russian with an assortment of feds, zenits and zorkis is various stages of malfunction (he had a lubitel with a broken viewfinder that I fixed for him) all at higher than ebay prices - way higher than ebay in the case of the lubitel and 3 weary looking moskova 5s. In another shop - a bookstore with two cases of memorabilia - was a perkeo in a case next to another case holding a framed photo of hitler and SS patches and medallions amongst other nazi paraphernalia . As attractive as the perkeo was, I couldn't fathom giving the shop any money due to their wide assortment of nazi memorabilia and books. Thinking I was walking into your normal run of the mill used bookstore, those cases took me by surprise in a bad way... In Kanaus I found an non-working and unidentifiable early TLR.
Our friends, who we met up with in Vilnius said they saw a lot of russian cameras in several shops in kronenberg - which wasn't on our itinerary...
Nonetheless, the trip was good as it's also good to be back.
