Just thought I would pop in and say a quick high
« on: September 02, 2021, 03:16:12 PM »
Hello I don't post that often and I feel a bit goofy posting this. BUT I recently upgraded to 8x10. It sounds amazing, but I don't think I can afford to shoot anything on it as yet.  ;D

I already had a Sinar 4x5 F1. Now have a Sinar 8x10 P1. It has several front standards, a couple of bellows, plus a 4x5 reducing back. The beauty of this is that I can shoot both formats now, plus with the reducing back I can also shoot pack film (and not have to worry about rotating the camera). After I got the kit, I had to invest in a new lens, plus a film holder (I got a wooden one for a song). I really want to shoot Polaroid 8x10, but I would need a dedicated holder for that as well as the Polaroid processor.

Anyone else on here shooting 8x10?

That looks like a nice setup.  I've dreamed about going to 8X10 but I'm not sure how much use I would get out of it.  The reason I've been shooting more 9X12cm film is because the cameras are much more portable compared to my 4X5 Crown Graphic.  Can't wait to see some shots from it.

What a beast!
I'm wondering: have you figured out a way to use a cable release with that lens that was missing the threaded insert?

I know I've looked at 8x10 before but simply figured out I'd be stuck shooting X-ray or mamography film and eating macaroni for the rest of my days if I ever bought such a setup!

I know nothing about 9x12, but I assume you can get film and holders? I don't even know what cameras this fits. I will do some googling.

And Francois, I did reply in the sales thread, so sorry for the lateness of my reply, I will have a working solution soon.

Nice camera! I shoot some 8x10 on occasion; I couldn't resist picking up the Intrepid 8x10 when it came out (I own one of their 4x5 cameras too, figured it would be nice to own its big brother as well). I also looked into shooting 8x10 instant film, but there were just too many hurdles to make it fun for me, so I've stuck to regular film. I do own one of these bad boys (8x10 daylight tank) and it works great!

Here's a photo I took on the 8x10 on HP5+ in the San Francisco Presidio.

Hey thank you very much for this. I'm curious about the tank so I will come back to check. I guess I'll have to work out scanning too. I like the One Instant video on your site!

Thanks! I didn't see a lot of demo videos out there for One Instant, and none for use with a 4x5 camera, so I made one. It's an interesting product - certainly much more temperamental than FP-100C, and pretty expensive, but I'm glad they're trying; hopefully they will survive and improve their offering.

As for 8x10 development, I also tried the CATLabs 8x10 rack that fits in a Jobo tank, which can do 3 sheets at a time, but I had a heck of a time loading the thing in a darkroom let alone in a changing tent. For the amount of time it took me to finagle the negatives into the rack, I may as well just tray-develop. The Stearman Press tank only does 1 sheet, but it uses much less chemistry and is very easy to use in a changing tent, meaning I can use it at home, saving a trip to the community darkroom. That has been a real boon in the time of COVID.

Yeah I have 3 packs of One Instant, only just took my first test shot recently. I love pack film, I am not sure One Instant will ever be as good as that, and it seems like it will be much more expensive. But I have ordered a Lomograflok back which is meant to drop here in Sept (hopefully) that is going to greatly reduce my costs :D
