Photographica 2013 - Sunday 19th May 2013
« on: May 03, 2013, 02:00:38 PM »
Apologies if anyone's posted a specific thread previously - I did a search but couldn't find one. Anyway.......

Is anyone else attending? It's due to take place at the usual venue:

Royal Horticultural Society's Lindley Hall,
Vincent Square,
Victoria,
London SW1P 2PB

If it's like last year, doors open about 10:00

"The Jugged Hare" has proven a decent venue for a pie / pint afterwards:

I thought I'd seen Ed going into print on this one. When we met up with Deborah (Gothamtomato) I mentioned it and he was a bit cheesed off as I think he'd committed to a trip abroad....

Still, it'd be great to have as many there as possible - with shin pads of course, to protect against the "Saga Louts"....

A friend of mine (photographer, digital but Respects The Film) reminded me of this just this evening - he's interested in going and I said I'd go as well. Not sure what our timing is going to be but I imagine he would be amenable to a pint or six afterwards.

Anyone attending want to swap mobile phone numbers? If so, please PM me.

Lara and I are aiming to be there by about 10:00 and probably head for the Jugged Hare for a pie and a pint between 13:00 and 14:00. If sufficient numbers prepared to commit, I can try to reserve the upstairs gallery at the pub (as per previous FW get-togethers)

It's no good, as much as I try to shuffle things about, I cant make it.  I really wanted to get some cheap DDss as well.

It will be the first without either Ed or me coming along.

If anyone wants to shoots some video footage  - perhaps of you all having a chat at lunch time, that would be good. Or maybe some stills from the stalls etc.

Have a great time.

Tish, tosh and piffle..... :o

I have, so far, resisted the urge to acquire a pinhole camera. Does this one take roll film? If so, I'll be sorely tempted.... ;)

(Just "Googled" it - 5x4 one shot deal and having to cart around a changing tent to do more than one exposure rules it out for me....)

Dave, it's all a bit of a bun fight at the beginning and very difficult to join up but I guarantee we'll all be bumping into each other at some point, literally! Failing that we can arrange to meet up for a coffee on the mezzanine floor about 11 ish...

I have no idea what any of you look like so wouldn't know it if I knocked you on your arse during the bun fight......however, it would be nice to meet some of you.

I usually stand out on account of my great big bushy beard (to quote Hot Fuzz) but I fear that may not be the case at Photographica! A coffee on the mezzanine at 11 sounds like a plan though.

By pure coincidence I've just noticed that the new FW podcast is out... and I'm in it! so you'll at least be able to recognise me!

As per my earlier post, Mrs LD (Lara) and I will be there about 10:00.

If anyone wants to swap mobile phone numbers, just PM me. Otherwise, a coffee on the mezzanine at 11:00 sounds like a good idea. I'll be the large chap with the spectacles and grey, short-cropped hair. I will be wearing a "Rush" T-shirt....

Team, have a great day. I'm in Abroad as previously discussed with Paul LD, so won't be able to make it. Very disappointed to be missing out, but I've had a fantastic time in Lithuania and Belarus, so I shouldn't complain. I trust someone will snap some photos of the day.

Just got home laden with "stuff". Great turnout by the FW team, by the way. Unfortunately, although Ordinal was in the pub, I didn't get the message he sent me (good old "3" network strikes again) until we were on the train at Liverpool Street. Sorry, mate  :(

Not as much in the way of "Saga Louts" in attendance this year (thankfully) - or maybe we were just better prepared. That said, Paul Mitchell had a bit of a run-in with some arsey stall holder and there were a number of announcements over the PA system that there'd been pick-pocket incidents reported, so "hold on to your belongings".  As we were leaving, Lara overheard one stall holder talking about "losing £800". Whether that was in pilfered stock or in hard cash, we don't know. Bad business all round.

Thil, Sandeha, Paul Mitchell and I took some photos. Paul Mitchell took some video footage. Miller got a couple of cracking bargains but had to leave "pre-pub" to attend to urgent progeny cycling overseeing responsibilities.

Silverprint / Ilford were "giving it large" (as they say down here) with the new Obscura. More about that from Paul Mitchell, I'm sure. Looks good and seemed to be selling well.

On a personal note, I managed to score a book I've been after for YEARS (Don McCullin's "India") and one I'd never heard of (Richard Gere's "Pilgrim" - yes, THAT Richard Gere). I also managed to get my mitts on a Lee Big Stopper. So, no reason for me not do shoot milky seascapes anymore.... ;D

Glasses were raised to absent Moderators. Always next year, lads...... ;)

A great time - and some bargains - was had by all.

I saw a GR1 on sale there for £120 and went off to the cashpoint to get the requisite funds, only to find that when I got back 5 minutes later somebody else had bought it! >:(

I had to console myself by buying discounted film from Silverprint's stall, and a near mint XA3.

Yeah... I had a cracker courtesy of the Wasters... After using Nigel's F3 at Dungerness I hankered for the one I sold and had a plan today.

I want to use the Loreo Lens in a Cap but need stealth for the subject in mind... http://www.filmwasters.com/forum/index.php?topic=4436.0

So within 10 minutes I grabbed a DW-3 waist level finder for £20.00 and L to the D spotted me a Nikon F3 body with HP head and a MF-14 databack had for £95.00...

And a day ain't complete without some pola action and grabbed a Big Shot  spotted by Donkey Dave for £10.00... Booyaka...

Thanks guy and yes I had a ball doing some off road cyclo cross with CJ though I would have loved a beer...

Apparently Brian May, from Queen, was on his way down. I was eavesdropping on some of the events people as they were discussing the police having caught a thief. One of them mentioned that Brian May was on his way. Unfortunately I couldn’t stick around as I had to get home in time for the last football game of the season.

Paul M spotted Brian May's grey mop of hair and pointed him out to me. Apparently he was approached many times by bowing Japanese camera enthusiasts posing for pictures with him, all of which he did with good nature.

I want to use the Loreo Lens in a Cap but need stealth for the subject in mind... http://www.filmwasters.com/forum/index.php?topic=4436.0

Paul - despite you explaining the Loreo to me once already I didn't understand at all and thought it was just a pinhole lens cap. Whereas this looks great. To compensate for me missing Photographica (yes, that's what I'm telling myself) I've just ordered one.

Very cool picking up the F3 £95.00, that's a bargain for such a classic camera.

sounds like you all had a great time and I'm gutted to have missed it.

Thanks for flying the FW flag - looking forward to seeing some pics and movie.
