Emulsive 5 Frames...

Got my Portra 400 pics up

I like the 5 Frames series at Emulsive and 35mmc. Has colored me curious about some films I wouldn't have thought to try.

I had forgotten about Emulsive and the 5 Frames series.  Thanks for the reminder and congrats—nice work.

That's a nice series, Peter. I particularly like the second shot - the car bonnet (hood?) against the sea and clouds.  Cuba is the top destination on my bucket list but it's becoming increasingly expensive from the UK and I might have to face the reality that looking at others' photos might be as close as I'll ever get.

Cuba is actually the cheap destination for Quebeckers. It might be worth getting a London-Montreal flight and then going Montreal-Havana.

Thanks Francois.
I'll check that out.  However, I suspect that it's compounded by the nose-dive that £Sterling has taken against other currencies following the decision to leave the EU. Holidaying everywhere is becoming increasingly costly and some airlines / tour operators are in real difficulties.  Thomas Cook (the originator of foreign "package" travel) has just had to obtain a £750M rescue deal (the second in 7 years) and it is now owned by a Chinese conglomerate.

One thing to consider when calculating travel costs for Cuba is how inexpensive it is once you get there -- that is, as long as you avoid the fancy resorts and tour packages which make the whole experience blandly generic and pointless as far as going to Cuba in the first place.

Cuba has a longstanding system of casas particulares -- rooms in private homes for rent -- that can be booked now through airbnb. Cuba had airbnb before airbnb. The going price for a nice clean room is $25 USD per night with $4 for breakfast. Most places will also wash clothes for $.50 a piece. Some also offer dinner for $5-$6 but I liked to get my other meals at restaurants.

Travel within Cuba from city to city can be booked on ViaAzul bus lines -- not real cheap but not expensive. Another low-cost option is a taxi collectivo, basically a 50s era station wagon with 6-8 people going to a common destination.

I missed this post earlier, but wanted to say congratulations Peter! Really fine work as usual. I remember the medium format series you did in Cuba and it was splendid.

Well done on getting the exposure Peter.
I went to Cuba earler this year and can echo all the positives you said about it. We had 5 days in total in Havana, 3 in the town of Trinidad and a couple on the beach at Cayo Santa Maria and only stayed in a hotel at the beach resort, the rest of the time was in pre-booked casa particulares.
As you said the people are friendly it's cheap to eat and drink and there is so much to see I would recommend it to anyone.

Thanks everyone for the kind words.

Irv, other places I really enjoyed were Vinales / Pinar del Rio (where the pics are from), which is a couple hours from Havana, and in the eastern part of the country Santiago de Cuba and Baracoa -- highly recommended!
