The Traveling OLY
« on: July 20, 2019, 10:51:43 AM »
Okay so now everyone who expressed to join in has, B&W was the slightly more popular taste so I have loaded it with Ilford FP4 36 exp.  It will be winging it's way to Sandeha to start us off, then it'll follow the list below as much as possible.
As there is 15 of us taking part it will mean that we get to shoot 4 frames each then pass it on. I have managed to contact Ed so when we are done it can go in the collab gallery.

      • 4 shots each on a theme suggested by the previous shooter
      • No time limit with the camera take as long as you like
      • Camera contains FP4 so if you use it on the ISO setting stick to 125 so we all use the same.
      • You can use it on aperature priority if you wish
      • there is a flash traveling with it. You will need to put 2 AA batteries in the flash. I wouldn't send it in the post with batteries loaded
      • Contact the next person to receive the camera to make sure that they are available, if not move to the next person on the list and we'll circle back to the missed  out person
      • there is a list of who is next with the camera and you can get the address of the next person to shoot from me or the Filmwaster themself via pm
      • Most of all have fun
Order of travel

Sandeha, David, Paul, Nigel, Tony, Irv, Kai, Aksel, Christian (nachtiris), Manuel, Christian (cs1), Francois, Bryan, Ryan, Becky, Irv for processing

I know Kai is away in Aug and Bryan travel frequently for work so we'll sort that as we need to.

I think that is it -any queries let me know via this thread

Becky I'm SO SORRY.  You are on the list. I got your name mixed up with Debbie :-[, after reading her newsletter, I made this list and put her name in instead of yours.
 Once again, sorry!
I'll amend the list on the thread and check with Sandeha that on the list, travelling with the camera, that I have put you in it correctly.

It's arrived with me and it seems to be all ok.
I had to wind it on, so we might have lost a frame.

Was I supposed to have a theme suggested by Paul, or have a misunderstood?

Glad to see it steadily doing the rounds. I hope everyone is having un with it. Yes Paul should have suggested a topic to shoot. there will be a surplus of frames left over so an occasional wind on shouldn't hurt.

I didn't check - can you trip the shutter without winding on?
If not, there should be no lost frames ... and no double exposures either.

You need to wind on to cock the shutter.

I think the shutter tripped in the post. Nevermind, I'm sure we can run to another roll if needed.

My brain went to porridge, Nigel. Sorry. Theme for you (if you haven't shot one already) is "Backlit scenes". I didn't wind on after my last shot as I know it's easy for the shutter to trip in transit or when putting in / getting out of the box.

So, now I wish I hadn’t asked!

You’re too prepared, Paul. I want to say I won’t wind it on but chances are I’ll forget.  8)

I’ve forgotten who’s next on the list (I’m on the sofa and can’t move) but if it’s you could you DM your address?

OK, my four frames are in the can AND I remembered not to wind on after the last shot! Although trying to shoot 'backlit' (thanks Paul  ;) ) I'm likely to have four underexposed images. I'll try to get it in the post in the next day or so - over to Tony.

Arrived safely, now trying to make sense of the assignment from Kai-san. Adding a softie and time correct braided neck strap + a link to this forum/thread if any custom officer should find the camera interesting when entering the EU again.

Hi Guys
just a quick shout out to see if the camera is still doing the rounds now the world is in Lockdown or has it got lost in the post.
Last notification was that it was with Aksel in Norway. Hopefully all is okay with him and it'll resume its travels once CV19 restrictions has eased.

I know right now shipping is at an all time slow.
I've been waiting for a padded envelope to come from the US for about 4 weeks now and it's just been released by customs to travel in the country.

Sorry to everyone on here!

I took my snaps and packed it up, then life came in the way and I forgot all about it. Had it not been for a message from irv it would still be on my shelf.
Now, I will ship it out to the next on the list, early next week. Agin, my sincere apology for the delay!

Hi Aksel,

don't worry and no need to apologize. We are living in strange times. Most important your're well and so your family and friends.

A lot of people are using film cameras to slow down a bit, so there is no need for speed in this nice little collaboration. :-)

Cheers!

OMG... it wasn't lost by the postal service and sent on a world tour of bad destinations only to land in a Tibetan village where somebody carried it by horseback to a post office in a neighboring country where the package was seized by the customs officer and sent to a depot where it was inspected and found that it wasn't delivered to the right country only to be put back in the postal service where it traveled by rail to cross the continent so that it could be delivered in Austria...

Reminds me, I once sent a package for work that went to the Philipines instead of Philadelphia. It got lost somewhere in Manila and never turned up again.  :D

Hello guys!

I'm sorry for sabotaging the collaboration. The last months were really tough, a lot of troubling things happened, additional to the whole COVID-mess.

But the Oly is still in perfect condition and is ready for travelling once again!

Christian we are so glad that you are ok.
The camera is secondary to your personal life so please don't think that you put the project under any danger.
I have said for people to take their time when they received the camera, as I know we all have busy lives, the main thing is to have fun when using it. Hopefully if anyone is having a bit of a photographic slump using a different camera with a topic suggested by someone else will help.
Take care of yourself and your family, and we all look forward to brighter days ahead.

Hi all
I have had a conversation with a couple of guys in the project and due to personal reason they understandably wish to drop out of participating which isn't a problem.
Before the camera gets posted on all I would like to know, are the remaining people wishing to carrying on or due to the current situation should we curtail the project.
If you wish to carry on please post on here or send me a message.
Thanks

Just to let you know, I still have to take my pictures. Got struck down by a bad cold last week (not sure where I got this from as we are not seeing anyone). With the upcoming hard lockdown, I will probably only be able to send the camera on in January. Hope that is ok.
