Hi!
As a photographer I like to read about photography as an art form the old-fashioned way .... from a printed book or magazine. Siting behind a computer screen or laying on the couch with a mobile device looking at a digital publication does not give me the same satisfaction a proper magazine does provide.
There are still plenty printed magazines about photography around, but unfortunately most of these magazines talk about photography gear instead of photography as an art form. I find reading about photographers, artists in general and their projects endlessly fascinating and inspiring as opposed to reading about gear which I find, if I may say so, boring as hell.
Information about what is available is scattered, hence my idea to start compiling a list of fine art photography magazines. If you like a reading a proper magazine about fine art photography, please feel free to add it to this list by providing its title, its website and a short statement what it is that attracts you to it.
Two restrictions. The main focus of the magazine should be art. Art in general and fine art photography in particular. And second, the magazine must be a physical magazine as in printed on paper. No need to distinguish between professionally published or personal Blurb-like publications. The same goes for publication rate: once a year, every single month or without a well defined publication date, they all qualify to be listed.
I'll start, please comment and add ....
- GUP Magazine (
www.gupmagazine.com) - GUP stands for "Guide on Unique Photography" each issue features emerging photographers as well as mid-career names
- Snoecks (
www.snoecks.be) - an annual magazine / book featuring mid-career as well as (semi-)famous photographers. Photography makes up the main part, but they do feature other art forms as well. Published by a Belgian publisher and writing in Dutch. Nevertheless, a gorgeous publication.
- FOAM Magazine (
www.foam.org/magazine/about-foam-magazine) - international magazine published 4 times a year by FOAM Fotografiemuseum, Amsterdam
- Loupe Magazine (
https://loupemagazine.bigcartel.com) - a bit of a mystery to me
