Meeting in England in June
« on: April 29, 2019, 09:59:37 PM »
I was talking with Christian earlier and we decided that we needed to nail down this weekend walk somewhat.
I've taken a look at event pages and cant find anything out of the ordinary to do, so here are the suggestions.
Canary wharf we may have to get permission before hand as we are going in a group.
We could always turn it into a day and early evening shoot in two different areas with a couple of beers to finish off as Christian wont be getting into London till lunchtime
If anyone has any strong feeling about a place not listed, shout and it can go on the list but not to many as we need to narrow it down.

I've gone for the East End option.  Loads of history and some excellent curry emporia if anyone is up for a bit to eat....

All of Irv's suggestions are very cool. So I guess that we need at least three more votes to find something that we agree on. ;)

The outlook is increasingly positive for my participation... any of the suggested options are fine with me.
A work colleague has also expressed an interest in coming along, so a potential new forum member too.

Kentish, that sounds great, looking forward to meeting you and your colleague and all the rest. :) Rachel from the Sunny 16 Podcast is very likely going to join us as well. As soon as we've agreed on a location I'll register the walk at photowalk.me. I booked the train tickets from the Peak District to London this morning so all is set and I'll be there in the morning, too, so there's even more time than I initially expected.

I've been having a chinwag with Christan and as it turned out to be a low scoring tie I just stuck a pin in it and came up with the East End option.
I'll be meeting Christian at St Pancras around 9.30am so I suggest we meet at the Old street  'EAT' cafe/restaurant for 10am. Northern Line tube
 https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/EAT./@51.5251755,-0.0871986,20z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x48761de0ae10312f:0xaf81fa7c363c25b6!8m2!3d51.5251809!4d-0.0871161

I thought that we could stroll down city Road across to Liverpool St station over to Spitafields market across to Brick Lane down to Aldgate and maybe onto Leadenhall mkt if we get time. Obviously its not a route march and we can be as fluid as we like.
Hope to see many of you guys there
If anyone wants my mobile number just dm me

When this started the dates mentioned were over the weekend of June 8 / 9......unless i’ve missed something on both the relevant threads, i’m presuming those dates are still operative and the current suggested meeting at Old Street EAT is for Saturday 8th?........or both (including the 9th) with everyone heading off in a different direction on Sunday?

Looking forward to meeting you all.

Take care,
Mike

Thanks Irv for the selection. :)

Mike, I need to head back to the Peak District around noon on Sunday so I believe that I won't have time for a second photowalk on Sunday (Mrs. S and my kids are expecting me back). But don't let that stop you from arranging another walk on Sunday with Irv and all of our other fellow Filmwasters. :)

Sorry Mike  I should have been more explicit
Yes this is for the Saturday.  I can make a Sunday as well after  I drop Christian off as well but I would guess that most people would be available on a Saturday. Do you actually have a preference then?

I've contacted the lovely hosts of the Sunny 16 Podcasts and they were so kind to pass on the invitation to our photo walk to their listeners. :)

Here're the facts that Irv already mentioned in short form:

We’re going to meet on Saturday 8th June at 10am in front of the "EAT." at 95 City Rd, Old Street, London; Northern Line tube: https://goo.gl/maps/qChBUkqez6TeMHbr7
Participants of the photo walk can be recognised by some sort of film camera dangling from that person, non-filmwasting guests may of course join in as well. :)

All looks well, as things stand, for Saturday 8th June. Mrs LD (Lara) may also be in attendance. I used to work on City Road, just round the corner from the meeting point so, as long as the train company is behaving itself, I'll be there for 09:30.

That's good news, LD. I'm also depending on the train being on time. We'll see. Since we'll be meeting early, worst case would be to catch up with you later. But I'm confident that we'll all be on time. :) Let's hope for dry weather.

Only six days until our meet up. The weather is looking promising (Fomapan 400 weather but at least it'll be dry :) ).

Just checked the weather forecast and, typically, it's now showing a 35-40% of some rain during the day. Not to worry - plenty of places to nip into for a coffee / beer and I'm not a "fair-weather" photographer.

See you all on Saturday at "Eat" on City Road. I'll bring a waterproof!  ;)

That's perfectly fine, I appreciate that you look after your granddaughter. Lots of blessings for her recovery. I'm pretty sure this won't be our last photo walk. Next time equip her with a camera and bring her along. :)

I've just checked the weather forecast for the City tomorrow and it seems to have improved a bit.  Some (10-20%) chance of rain, 12-15 degrees celsius and a 20(ish) MPH gusting wind. Not exactly tropical but we should be fine  8)

This is the day after the fantastic photo walk that we had through London. It was brilliant and it was a real joy to meet you all. Also thanks to Rachel, one of the lovely hosts of the Sunny 16 Podcast for joining us and it was fantastic to meet and talk with all of the lovely Sunny 16 Podcast listeners who joined us. I had a brilliant time. :)

Just a quick addition: since at least half of the photo walkers aren't on this forum (maybe some will be soon :) ) Rachel suggested using the hashtag #filmwastersfunday for any photos from our photo walk that are posted on Instagram. I'll use it when I'm back home and have developed my film (can be 1-2 weeks until then). (BTW: I use #filmwasters most of the time anyhow in case anyone is interested.)

Hi Christian.
Great to meet you, Irv and Tony yesterday (and, of course Rachel and the Sunny 16 guys). Lara and I really enjoyed the day out and the opportunity to meet up with a great gang of fellow photographers, have a beer, an excellent curry and generally do the things we've not had time to do for the last while.  I'm about to try a new dev / scan service as, although I want to get back into developing my own B&W, my enthusiasm levels for even that level of commitment isn't right just now. It'll come, though.
Definitely worth posting on Instagram (and here of course) so the "#" will be useful.
Best wishes.

Just to add my thanks to all who made it such an enjoyable day.

Great to meet Christian and Paul & Lara, and to catch up with Irv, and of course Rachel and her spool of sunny 16ers, and to just wander and chat about all things film.
Despite the fact that people and "street" photography is well out of my comfort zone, I had a great day, and for the most part, was pointing my lens upwards at the high-rise architecture.

I'll certainly be interested in repeating the experience.

Many thanks to Tony, Paul, Lara and Christian for a really enjoyable day. It was great to chat walk eat laugh and shoot with a group of knowledgeable friendly bunch of photographers. With the addition Rachel and the guys and girl from the Sunny 16 podcast and a couple of others briefly along the way and the weather staying fine it made a great change from what can be at times a solitary hobby.
Christian I hope you are feeling better today, we'll speak soon, I'm off to dev my rolls and see if I handled that beast of a camera as well as I thought I had in my head.

Hi all

A tough forum to join it's taken since Saturday to get approved 😁

It's was really good to meet everyone and be welcomed into the group.  Me and my daughter has great time out shooting with a group  of like minded people.

Thanks to Paul, Lara, Christian, Tony, Irv and anyone who's name I've forgotten 😁

I'm feeling rather sick. I brought a fully fledged food poisoning back home. I'm still in bed. :-\ Looking forward to seeing the results that you shot with your Mamiya. It's quite a hefty machine :)

Welcome to the forum, George. :) Yes, there's room for improvement in the registration process but I think that there aren't that many global moderators and the registration process keeps spam bots away. In any case, it's a lovely forum, you'll like it here. :)

I have to agree ;D
Thanks George I don't really like portraits of myself but this one is good.
The camera that I was lugging about was a Mamiya Super23 which had been modified (not by me) by taking the top off to halve the weight so it wasn't that heavy to carry around. apparently it was used to shoot landscape and aircraft.

Looks like I missed something special - hopefully this will happen again and I will be able to make it.

Christian, I hope you are getting better - thank you for your blessings for my grand-daughter who is on the mend.........it was a nice thought to bring her next time but she's only 3 and she probably will have difficulty lugging a Pentax SV around all day, never mind changing films.

Really like the pix so far - always prefer the seedy and edgy bits of London........and that is one 'ace' portrait.

Hoping to catch up with you next time.

Take care,
Mike

I quickly wanted to share a photo of the "gang" from the photo walk in Shoreditch. To not shoot a typical group portrait I asked everyone to look anywhere but at the camera. I think that the result is both cool and hilarious. Thanks guys and girls for the fab time! :)
