LF pinhole cameras ... ?
« on: April 05, 2006, 03:21:23 PM »
with all this talk of pinhole shenanigans, I've decided that I NEED one too.

I cant build anything of my own accord, and I will just end up wasting loads of money and materials if I try to do so.  So I'm stuck ... Ideally I would like an 8x10 pinhole camera that comes in idiot-proof kit form, or one that's already built for me - anyone know of any?  I cant find anything like this in 8x10 - i Have found this http://www.pinholesolutions.co.uk/camera_kits.htm - which comes with a pinhole, but can be used as a LF camera too, and it is pretty damn cheap for what it is.  It was reviewed in Ailsa's B&W magazine recently and got good reviews, so maybe this is the way to go?  But, are 5 x 4 contacts too small?  questions questions!

any thoughts?

I really like 5 x 4 contact prints. They are not so small that you canot see the details and if the tonality is right they remind me of old tintypes. They are like jewels. I really need to get a pinhole cap for my crown graphic, I might just make one, would be easy enough I guess and I still have some expired type 55 so i could play around and see what the real aperature is..hmmm....

i've been eyeballing a Santa Barbara model.  Gotta pick your focal length though.  I can't recall if they come in 8x10 size either...

4x5 is not too small... :)

I make and sell the da Vinci 4x5 pinhole camera.
Been thinking of building an 8x10 around one of my film holders
laying around. Maybe this thread will inspire me.

Randy - good to see you here - let us know how you get on if you decide to build it - could become a new Holgamods product?
