« on: December 12, 2016, 09:39:36 PM »
'tis the season for making our lists and checking them twice...

What's on your holiday wish list....mainly books for me.
William Christenberry tops my list!

How about you?

I always get books so that's not much of a surprise.
But I never go hunting for a specific title, I just settle for what's on the shelf at Indigo Books...

1. Susan "Blur"nstine's Absence of Being - which is sat wrapped and waiting for Christmas Day
2. Ragnar Axelsson's Faces of the North - a present to myself.  Not had chance to have a proper look yet....
3. Something from Michael Kenna - who is signing books in London tomorrow evening (and I'm going)

I'm not saying I'm going to be lucky enough to get any of these, but these are on my never ending list of books I'd like:

1. A Red Ball of Sun Slipping Down - Eugene Richards (a subject of obsession this year)
2. Dorchester Days - Eugene Richards
3. Magnum Cycling Photographs
4. Under the Influence: John Deakin, Photography and the Lure of Soho
5. The Open Road - David Campany

... and so it goes on!  :-[

Becky in case you're looking for a Christenberry recommendation I really like his Aperture book of Kodachromes.  Wonderful.  And if you happen to love one of the Kodachormes in the book you can call Hemphill gallery in DC and they'll partner with the artist to make an authorized print for you.  Or at least they would as of last year; I don't know how things might have changed since William's passing.  I was saddened to hear that news.

I walked the Christenberry show in NYC last weekend and there were sweet little brownie dye transfer prints (about 3x5") and I wanted to put a few in my pockets.   :P

This thread is quickly becoming an evil pit of lust. I am changing my entry to just be "this thread" and will try resisting the temptation to order everything in it.

Well... years ago I made the mistake of subscribing to the Taschen newsletter...
And since them they keep sending me invites to get more books... some of them very tempting or very expensive, I often have the feeling it's a good thing I don't subscribe to those quick checkout features on websites!

I attended the Michael Kenna book signing - turned out it was for "Rouge" - an industrial view of Ford's Detroit plant.  I already had a copy but I just couldn't resist the urge to get a signed copy.  That means I now have a spare (unsigned) copy.  It's out of its protective film but that's it.  It is pristine and, if anyone wants it, they can have it for a third of the price new.  It costs £45 from Foyles or £30 + postage from Amazon - but I'd be happy to accept £15 + postage.  This is the updated version - it has 100 photos.  The original, according to MK, had 50 - and he should know.  This isn't a reprint, it's a redesign and upgrade.

If anyone's interested, please PM me.

Update 16 Dec 2016: Rouge is now gone.  A fellow FW'er has proposed a very nice exchange.

Thanks Nigel.  I had a good scour around his website and I haven't seen a bad photo yet....

I'm all booked out at the moment but I'll see about getting this for my Birthday in March.

From long time ago, my wet dream has been «Monsters & Madonnas; A Book of Methods», by William Mortensen.

I also like to buy someday Bill Brandt's «A Night in London: Story of a London Night in Sixty-Four Photographs».
