My little journey to the center of the mind was taken with a Leica IIIa and a Summar 50/2, with the assistance of a NOOKY-HESUM, on HP5+ pushed to 1600, stand developed in Caffenol C-L.

Excellent start to the weekend. What a fantastic sunrise and I love Lindisfarne (the place and the band). Also, Ed's "Lost in the Green" is a gorgeous shot.

Mine are a few taken at Bradwell on Sea using Foma Retropan 320 via a Voigtlander Vitomatic II. It's incredibly grainy film and, the more I look at these, the less likely I feel I am to use more of it. I find it interesting but I'm not sure I could shoot it as a "go to" film stock, though...

Thanks Satish. The scanner didn't know what to do with that negative. It was a bright pinkish orange in the preview. I went through each channel and adjusted the top and bottom levels. So really I just adjusted for the base color and opacity. I took the same shot on some Kodak Internegative film, but that is proving to be extremely difficult to scan. Like I said, it was very under developed, so I'll try again this weekend.

Ed, that middle is my favorite in the set, but the last is hysterical.

Trying not to spend all Saturday morning scanning fiddly little negs, especially when there's a rowing regatta at noon that might need some old guy with a film camera getting in the way.

I shot these a while back, but developed them this weekend. Orca 110 in a Demekin fisheye which I bought about ten years ago on a whim and this is only the second time I used it. Also first time out using the Yankee Clipper II tank I bought to develop 110 film - because if I develop two films in it it's paid for itself in what I'd save.
At least now i know the tank works (because it looks so insanely flimsy I'd not use it for anything other than 110) I can take out the Pentax Auto 110 that's been sitting in its attache case since 2008.

Francois, I had some similar spots on this last roll of Tri-X I shot with my Argus C3. Yours wasn't Tri-X was it? The C3 does have some light leaks so I assume that was likely what caused it.

The half-circle-shaped marks are for sure mechanical kinks by inadequate bending i.e. when spooling into the dev spiral with force. Some of the other spots look aligned, maybe these dots are also exposed by inadequate pressure when handling the film. This film seems to have been treated quite rudely.

I know that the moon's are kinks in the film... It gave me a hard time getting on the stainless reel (it was my first time putting 120 on those) .
The film came out of a brand new Holga and was processed in HC-110.
When I look at the negs, I get more spots, even in between frames, at the beginning of the film than at the middle. Which puzzles me to no end.
The spots are not pinholes which come out black instead of white on the print(pnhole dont have emulsion at the holes)

I'm really puzzled.

Were you shooting more slowly or in brighter light at the beginning of the roll? That might explain the discrepancy along the length of the roll if we assume some sort of light leak in the camera or backing paper. Of course it could be as simple as a badly coated film and you can chase your tail endlessly trying to find out what went wrong. I would just give it another go with a different brand of film and eliminate that variable.

My theory: schmutz! Sediment moves in clouds and it tends to settle when the liquid is left to stand. I'm thinking those spots along the bottom edge are right about where the film might come into contact with the steel spiral (and thus where sediment might settle in clumps). The concentration of spots at one end of the roll rather than the other might simply mean that that's where the cloud of sediment happened to be as development happened. We might also think about how the chemistry flows into the tank and where sediment would concentrate in that action. As stated, the half-moons are definitely kinks in the film.

Since it was a pre-owned tank that I used, I'm thinking that there might have been some dried developer stuck in the lid's funnel that got unstuck during developing and that settled on the film... but then again I think that would have been on the outside of the reel, not the center?

As for air bubbles, it's a no go as these would have printed black since the undeveloped film would have been fixed-out leaving a clear base... I think.

As for light leaks, I've never seen them in a random location on the frames... They always end-up at the same place.

Film defect? maybe... though it was a roll of Fuji Neopan Acros. These are usually pretty good when it comes to quality standards. At least much better than Shanghai GP3 or Lucky film.
