Province Limburg, The Netherlands (a short trip)
« on: June 24, 2016, 09:33:52 PM »
About two weeks ago, the lady of the house, my daughter and me travelled to Roermond, Province Limburg, in the southeastern part of the Netherlands.
The girls liked to visit the local shopping facilities and I paid a visit to an old friend, who lives there.
Roermond is bordered by the Maas / Meusse River to the west and Germany to the east.

Rob (my friend) and I took  his MG for a half an hour drive downstream.

We visited a small market town called Kessel to have lunch in a nice tavern (De Rozetuin = Rosegarden).

After lunch we had a little photo walk.

Kessel is dated back to the 10th century, situated at the foot of a motte-and-bailey castle. Later the motte became  Kasteel de Keverberg.

In 1944 the German Wehrmacht burned the castle down. About 70 years later (November, 2015), the reconstruction of the castle was finished.

We paid a visit to the nearby cemetery ...

… and to a beautiful manor house named  De Oeverberg.

Most of the time we sat on the walls of the castle, just watching the boats go by and enjoying the picture-perfect weather ...

I'm in love with your series, Andreas. The place seems to be perfect, colors are sweet but brilliant and the elements you shot are very interesting. Congratulations.

Nice shots. I've never been to the Netherlands, but these make me want to go. We don't have nearly enough 10th Century castles here in the States....
Any man who can see what he wants to get on film will usually find some way to get it;
and a man who thinks his equipment is going to see for him is not going to get much of anything.
