Weekend 20th - 23rd May
« on: May 20, 2016, 06:24:28 AM »
I hear it's Friday in Melbourne, so I'm cheating. :)

How about a couple of random snaps with my first two-stop Ektar push?

I like the colors of the pushed Ektar. Did you only push in developing or did you also shoot at 400?I tried this once and it turned out a bit blueish.

It was raining over the weekend and I finally got to try out the New55 I got as kickstarter award. It was labelled negative only, but I got lucky and it was actually PN (which was good as the negatives turned out quite solarized).

Nice start. I particularly like Aksel's transportation series and Manuel's pineapple.

Rob: That Delta 100 looks GREAT! How did you develop it?

Jack: I agree with Manuel, the colors look beautiful :) Thanks for proving to me that Ektar loves pushing as much as Gold (and Portra) does :)

Thanks. I am afraid I didn't develop it myself on this occasion but sent it of to a lab called peak imaging. I then scanned the negative on my Epson v800 scanner.

I'm going with an automotive theme this week.  Both shot on Ilford Delta 100 and developed in beer.  The first was shot in Eureka, Nevada with a Kodak 35 RF and the second was shot in Port Orchard, WA with an Olympus OM-1.

My first shot on IP B&Y film, and I love it!! (yes, that was a complete shock to me too :o ) Thank you to whichever of my generous European benefactors gave this to me (there are so many of you, and I thank you all! but I think it might have been Jonas who gave me this pack? or maybe Kai?) At any rate, an important thing to note is that unlike every other IP film I've shot, this does NOT need me to set the camera's EV wheel to 100% dark (I did that on this picture and it came out too dark and I had to increase the exposure by +1EV in Lightroom). Another weird thing, it has a bunch of developing spots on it. I cloned most of them out in LR, but if you look on the left side of the photo (also elsewhere), you'll see some slightly dark spots. On the print, each of those dark spots is centered by a tiny bright yellow pinprick.

Wow.  Great start from Jack.  I never imagined Ektar would push so well.  Love Rob's Linhof photos, Becky's Shiprock and Bryan's cars.

Mine are a couple I took at a custom HiFi show in Melton Mowbray (home of the pork pie by the same name and also Stilton cheese). This is where Lara and I literally bumped into Miller.

My photos are of a really wild set up featuring some really "horny" home-made speakers (as you can see) and the other is 4 x Quad electrostatic speakers wired up to give a really warm and effusive sound.  Leica M7, 28mm Elmarit-M and Ilford XP2 Super.  Hope you like them.

Thanks Sandeha.
I stood near but delibrately not directly under the light and pointed the light meter at the camera position. Off the top of my head it was 45s @ f16. Here is the other view which was Imin @ f16 both slightly darkened by anout 1/2 stop in LR for a bit more atmosphere

Indofunk, I'm very pleased to see the results you've achieved with the yellow/black duotone film I gave you. This film is a bit spotty, it's part of the charm. ;)
Please let us see what you get out of the other two Impossible films I gave you, I believe there was a blue/black one as well. And the third one could have been a magenta/black. :P

Yes, thank you! I think I already shot the back & cyan pack, it was much less contrasty than this B&Y, didn't develop as quickly, and still required turning the camera's EV meter down. Even after one shot, I'm very impressed by this B&Y formula, I hope IP didn't change it in their current "Third Man" offering. But knowing them, they probably did :P

Well, they might have tried to improve it, because the one I gave you was a test film. I've got one of those "Third Man Records" edition in my fridge, haven't got around to shooting it yet.

More nature shots.  Went to dinner at a colleague's house and had to stop on the way to grab these.

First is expired Portra 160, second is Agfa XPS 160, both in the Yashica 44LM

Such a great weekend! Every time I thought I'd found my favorite, I'd keep scrolling and another shot would make me stop and gasp. Loved Manuel's pineapple, Aksel's line of trees, Charles Binns' dandelion, and jharr's puppy. Gimenosaiz's first color shot of the flower at the side of the road is stunning. And Rob Clarke, I want that espresso maker! :)

Like Satish, I've got an IP shot, though mine is just straight color. I was in North Carolina last weekend celebrating my mother's 80th birthday with my family at the beach. I brought several cameras (I know, I couldn't help it!) including the SX-70. Couldn't resist this shot of the back porch that overlooks the beach:

rChairs by limrodrigues, on Flickr

(Scan came out much bluer than the print looks, so I just tweaked the colors to make it match the print.)

I like the colors of the pushed Ektar. Did you only push in developing or did you also shoot at 400?

I shot at 400 and had the lab push in developing. They were trying to talk me out of it when I dropped it off, and were shocked at how well it pushed.

Nice, I'll add to the pushed Ektar!
How about you, huevos_rancheros? Shot and processed at 400?

I shot a bunch of random stuff to see how it would pan out. It really seems to like that lit-from-the-window scenario most, but I was really surprised to see how gracefully it handled mixed light. The stuff that was wholly interior tended towards underexposed but with a fun vintage look and less grain than Superia 400 when it goes sideways, so when I do it again I'll probably shoot it at 320 interior and 400 everywhere else. It could be my camera's lightmeter. But, definitely cheaper to experiment with Ektar than to shoot Portra 400, that stuff is like $12/roll locally.

Jack, that colors are really good!!!
Thanks Gimenosaiz, and everyone!

Jack, I think you get a slight shift toward the blues when you push Ektar--I think it's a great improvement!  The same thing seems to happen when Satish pushes Gold to 1600--makes them both look more like Portra!

Had the Friday off and couldn't decide where I was going to go, but a friend suggested Southend.

Took the Agat-18 with me, as I'd recently painted the inside with matt black enamel paint to stop internal reflections on the shiny plastic.
