If you're an old skater like I am, the name Ed Templeton probably rings a bell. Not in the sense of that I know this guy but more like I've heard this name before.
Well, yes he is the brain behind Toy Machine skateboards. And yes, he is a friend of Mark Gonzales. And to my surprise, yes he is a photographer too!

And when you look at his CV, he's pretty well known in the art circles too. Pretty good for a guy with no art training.
And for the Leicaphiles out there, he's also a Leica M user...

It's funny because I've been recently re-discovering a lot of the old graphic artists from the 80's skate scene and was quite surprised to see that their stuff aged surprisingly well and that so many of them are still doing it...
I've also begun watching the documentary "Beautiful Losers" where they interview Templeton and a bunch of other artists

  • Slowly getting back into it. Sometimes.
Francois! You're on fire at the moment, digging up all these old skater photographers; good on ya!

Oh yeah!
And I think there will be more to come!

Thing is, these things feel good for some reason.
I must say I'm a bit envious at all they were able to do at that time... I was still a kid and wasn't even allowed to go to Montreal alone at that time.
I'm also quite envious at all the paint and stuff they were able to do. Here, paint was bloody expensive so unless you did kiddie watercolors, everything else was out of the question.
And photography was even worse when it comes to the cost.

I so wish I never stopped crafting stuff to become a serious person...  :'(

I liked his photos but he draws like an 11 year old.  Sorry.

If I remember, he used to tell people to buy his board, the one with the ugly graphics...

I liked his photos but he draws like an 11 year old.  Sorry.

His style is synonymous with skateboard culture. I've been seeing his graphics since I was a kid.

The odds that someone older who is disconnected with skateboarding will relate to it is very unlikely. So I can understand what you see in it.

I really do like ed though. It would be nice to meet him one of these days. I love his stories.

Sady I cannot argue with the tag older.  I'm sure he's a lovely bloke and he certainly is a good photographer though.
