Easter Weekend March 25-27 (or 28)
« on: March 24, 2016, 04:54:01 PM »
Last weeks thread featured some plus-x. I have to say that I'm a HUGE fan of the film. I shoot it quite regularly but my stash is getting low and I have so savour the flavour so I don't waste it.

Cool shark Charles!  These were shot in the Palouse with a Kodak Monitor 616 using 70mm Kodak Vericolor III film that expired in 1989.  I'd like to extend a special thanks to James for the film and developing!  There was a problem with my poor spooling of the film that probably caused some uneven exposure from wrinkles.  I don't think I had the film lined up perfectly with the backing paper.

Hey, early weekend! Love the colours Bryan, unfortunately I spent my last Vericolor more than two years ago. I've been trying out a new film to me, the Kentmere 400. Not very exited, it seems quite sensitive to overexposure.

I'll try to find one that I haven't posted in my photo essays thread. This one is from Birmingham, UK, home of the weirdest-looking gargoyle I've seen.

What a fantastic start to this weekend's thread.

I'm presuming Charles must have dropped his Holga into the sea to get that beautiful shot of the shark.  Bryan's "Silo" and Satish's "Gargoyle" are also stunners - but it'd be wrong to pick strong favourites from such a selection.

Mine are a couple of Holga shots taken earlier this winter when I was visiting a friend of mine in a nearby town. Ilford XP2 Super and a very light sepia tinge - but nothing more.

I was going to make up a story about how I dived into the see holding my holga and clenching a knife between my teeth.  But Indofunk got it spot on!  Veracruz aquarium.

Great stuff, guys. I particularly liked SLVR's Plus-X shots, Bryan's  Palouse giant scans and KevinAllan's Fountains Abbey shot.

Some Efke KB100 shots from me. Contax G1 / Planar 45mm f2.0.

I've got a photo essay in the works, but for the moment I'll post something unrelated, a little 90-year-old graffiti I came across recently, back when you had to do a lot more than grab a spray can and go to work. And when a lot of people's first names started with "E", apparently. Leica IIIg, Canon 50/3.5, HP5+ in Caffenol C-H(RS).

Here are a couple I shot in my Voigtländer Bessa 6x9 on Fuji HR-20 35mm Microfilm. It is sprocket-free film, so the images are full width 35x90.

I've thought about using 35mm in one of my 6x9s for pano shots. Are you using a rigid mask to guide the film, or just stretching it across the open gate unsupported (except at either end, obviously)?

No film guide, just the backing paper. I suppose it might be curling a bit, but jeez I'm shooting expired copy film in an 80 year old camera. If I wanted corner to corner sharpness I'd try something different.  :P

I've used 35mm in my Holga WPC. Just shoved a packing peanut above and below the 35mm canister to hold it in place, then stretched the film across. Worked perfectly well :)

Yeah, then I would have to figure out how many "turns" is 9cm. That's too much work. I'd rather spend 30 minutes trying to align a piece of 35mm film in the center of a 120 backing paper in the dark.

I just overcompensated. I think I got 4 or 5 shots out of a 24 exp roll, but it was cheap film (possibly free), so I didn't care ;)

The easter weekend is only a few hours old and we already have a bunch of beautiful pictures. Who wouldn't admire Bryans silo? Or Charles' shark?

Now a little follow-up from the last week. It's the Himbachel viaduct of the single track Odenwald Railway. Built in 1880/81, 250 m long and up to 43 m high. No more original Agfa Vista available, so it's Kodak VR400 now.

Oh, you're respooling into 120 backing paper. Got it. I was envisioning the bare film.

Thanks Gary--it's expired film (2006).  I like the muted tones--it sort of reminds me of Portra NC in that way.  NC was my favorite color stock ever.

My shot below looks kind of from the dark side but it's actually 35mm Tri-X @ 320 developed in Rodinal 1+50 with reduced agitation and slightly longer developing time. Never underestimate Rodinal. I'm using a Plustek 7400 scanner. Nikon FE2 | Nikkor AI 28mm/3.5

Wow!
Always a strong showing on these weekend gigs.
Love too many to single any out, but still wow!!!

One from my very recent foray over to Amarillo with the wild Holga I have.

Old color, developed at the local lab in Albuquerque.

This was a few blocks off of Route 66 in a cool old neighborhood!

Speaking of autofocus speed, I used to have a Ricoh GR1 but I never bonded with it, in part because of its slow AF (a lot of hunting going on). In contrast, the Minolta TC-1 has super quick AF, no hunting, even in low light situations.

james, I like the tones of that grill of the mercedes

This pic I like conceptually more than how it turned out. I may try again to see if I can get a bit more tonal separation...

This is a camera which shoots 24 half frames from the 6x6 format of 120.  Kind of fun. It's not really outstanding as a toy camera, it's competent enough at making an image that there's no exciting focus fall off or vignetting, if anything it's just a nice slightly subdued, somewhat soft, vintage effect. But the novelty of getting 24 frames on a roll of 120 is great fun.

The other camera was my Kinoflex (Halina Prefect rebadge):

I tried out my Gallinger portrait lens (a slip on +1 diopter lens for box cameras) to get some close ups.

For some reason these cameras never got any attention during the toy camera boom, even though they're nearly as Diana-y in terms of results, but way more robust in construction.

That's probably just because Mike said they weren't toys... Remember those days?
