Another Place.

Another Place is an art installation by the British artist Anthony Gormley.  100 cast iron statues (cast from a mould of the artist's body) face out to sea over a two mile stretch of Crosby Beach, near Liverpool.  The artwork has provoked some controversy locally (some consider the naked statues to be pornographic) but t the figures seem to catch the imagination of the walkers on the beach in a way that few examples of modern art have.

The statues have a contemplative air about them and enhance the sense of tranquility you get from being besides water.  It is almost as it they are waiting for someone or something to appear over the horizon.

I like the photos, probably more than I like the art piece. I find some art a bit self-indulgent or even vain. To make iron casts of yourself nude is not extremely far afield, but a bit more than appeals to me. Again, nice photos. The b/w treats the subject well.
