This is Edwin's Daughter Marnie. On behalf of my mum, brother and myself I regret to inform you all of the sad passing of my dad on the 18th of November 2015. As some of you may know my dad was diagnosed with lung cancer in May this year and he underwent intensive chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The doctors were amazed at how well he coped with his treatment but unfortunately the cancer spread to his brain and there was no more they could do for him.

My dad was honestly the most amazing person that I have ever met. He was so positive and strong right until the very end, never losing is unique and quirky sense of humour. He was a loving, kind, caring and selfless person who lived for his family. We miss him every day of our lives.

He might have been one of the least understood members but he still was a filmwaster.

My condolences to you and your family, Marnie. I remember Ed as one of the first toy camera folks / filmwasters to offer kind comments to my work -- of course, in his most inimitable way. The world's a sadder place.

Very sad news indeed.  I'd also like to offer my condolences to his family. 

Having worked in Ayr shortly after graduating, I never had a problem understanding Ed's braw Scots, and I always enjoyed his contribution to these and the old Toycamera.com threads.

He'll be missed.

Ed's posts were always good for a laugh. Reading his Scots and imagining him in my mind with a glass in one hand and a camera in the other was the picture of a true Filmwaster. So tonight I'll raise a glass to Ed, say a prayer for his family and maybe go back and read some of his brogue-ish humor one more time.

As a lifelong student of linguistics, I loved reading and deciphering his posts and always enjoyed his sense of humor. As a filmwaster, I loved seeing his perspective of the world though his pictures.

Now I'm sad.

I remember deciphering the first of his posts I encountered.  It became a kind of puzzle to translate and very much in the spirit of fun that's a trademark of this group.

I didn't know him but know what it is like to loose a father to cancer at a young age he was only 45, I'm really sorry

I echo all of the previous comments; this is sad, sad news. I really enjoyed Ed's contributions here and on Flickr and LOVED his sense of humour and his absolute refusal to be drawn into writing 'proper' English. He will be greatly missed.
