Topic: The Abandoned hotel-

Here's a few shots from Monday's excursion into an old abandon Hotel, hidden in plain sight in Downtown Seattle.  it was very dark, and I was trying out the wide-angle attachment for my Yashica Mat 124G, and failed to notice a HUGE fingerprint right across the lens.... so they are not quite as sharp as I'd like..

Nice, I like the old sink.  I wouldn't think a building in downtown would be abandoned for long as valuable as realestate is right now in Seattle.  Did you run into any unthorized occupants?

No, it's pretty well boarded and locked up. I happen to now have a key to it, as it is the only safe way onto the roof of the building my restaurant is in- so I think I'll be heading up for more "exhaust hood maintenance"   -with camera and tripod in hand.

Love the photos - and I've thought several times of getting involved with a bit of Urban Exploration. 

However, in the 35 years I've been working in insurance (insuring owners of building portfolios where some of them are unoccupied / derelict / awaiting demolition / refurbishment), I've seen several serious injury claims where trespassers have sued building owners for compensation when variously, falling down unlit stairs, falling through holes in floors, falling through skylights, ripping clothes on exposed nails, electrocution from loose / unprotected wires and a load of other stuff.  In the UK, building owners still owe a significant duty of care to trespassers for any injuries sustained as a result of the building / land owner's legal negligence. 

It sorts of puts me off as I am a clumsy sod at the best of times

That's pretty much the only thing that puts me off of doing those things. I'm OK when on the outside, it's inside that worries me.
If I can deal with many physical injuries, I'm more worried about mold and spores. I know a guy who worked in a spore infested garage and he became really sick from it. He spent at least a year on cortisone and now his system won't produce it anymore. He now walks like an old man and he's only a few years older than me...

That's pretty terrifying - especially since I live in Seattle, the "mold spore capital of the world" -maybe I'll wear a respirator  next time I shoot in there...

Those molds and spores can be a real nightmare. And for some reason, his parents are not affected by it!
But he was just the unlucky one. It's pretty sad for him in a way because he's a helicopter bush pilot who doesn't know how to do anything else. He's a bit antisocial, that's why he likes going up north where only the caribou roam. Last year when he was really sick, he had his flying license suspended for medical reasons. That really crushed him. Now, he's got his license back but all the cortisone made him put on a lot of weight. He's not as nimble as he used to be and doesn't know how long he'll be able to keep on flying.

And all of this because of a fungus infested garage...

If the fingerprint is the cause of that flare from the window at the top of those stairs, it was a good thing!  A very nice set.  Wait, I think I can hear a strange noise from your exhaust fan....

That explains why they're so quick to lock buildings up again once there's a way in.  I briefly popped into the abandoned Canon Brewery in Sheffield when I saw the gate was unchained.  I took a few shots, but resolved to come back another time because I wasn't really dressed for it.  Unfortunately it's done up tight again now and it would take quite a bit of climbing to get back in.  I can't believe anyone would have the gall to sue the owners because they tore their clothes while trespassing, though!
