A big up for Stills Gallery, Edinburgh
« on: August 05, 2007, 08:04:39 PM »
If any of you are ever in Edinburgh, then be sure to visit Cockburn Street in the Old Town. Not only home to Beyond Words, one of the finest photographic bookshops in the country, but also Stills Gallery.

This is where I did my Introduction to B&W Printing, and following a burst of managerial inspiration has
a) gone for 7 day opening for the darkroom facility (previously Weds to Sat with limited hours)
b) reduced the cost of the hire to ?9 for a 3 hour session (down from about ?13 I think)
The idea being that if your resource is more readily available, and cheaper, then more people will use it. Makes perfect sense. I hope it works out because their state of the art digital suites are threatening the under-used darkroom space.

The current exhibition the often hilarious and brilliant work of John Stezaker (the previous exhibition of Jerwood Award winners was pretty fab too).

Guess where I spent the weekend?

Beyond Words is beyond fab ... I remember fondly hiding from a blizzard in there last time I was in Edinburgh.

Ahhhh, I plan to be in Scotland next year, and while I'll be in Glasgow for most of it, of course a trip to Edinburgh is in the books.  I will definitely seek those places out!
