My friend uses this German drugstore film (ASA 200, I think Fuji) that costs about $2 a roll. I wonder where this stuff is made. Assuming it's Fuji, does Fuji have manufacturing plants outside Japan?

Yes, I know (in fact all of my recent colour shots were taken with this film - Paradies 200 from DM store.
I believe that this cheap film from Maco is the same film as the Paradies film.

Just check the film cassette's barcode number on either the DX simulator or http://dexter.pcode.nl/
That always tells you what's inside the can.

For me, the cheapest I've ever bought was a three pack of short date Kodak gold for 1$.
Lets just say I emptied their bin!

0.98 euros for 24 exp certainly is cheap, although in the UK there is a ready supply of Agfa VistaPlus 200 for £1 in the "Poundland " discount store chain. The film is generally thought to be Fujicolor 200 and is fresh not expired.

Because Poundland has a large number of stores many people can pick it up without having to pay the postage charges (about 12 euros from Macodirect) and, although most of the rolls are 24 exp, you occasionally get 36 exp. Some spotters have also seen an ISO 400 variant in the wild but I haven't found it yet.

However, I'm selling my 35mm gear so won't be buying any more ! In MF i'm using almost exclusively Portra and Ektar and aiming for consistency and quality rather than low price.

Can certainly vouch for the Agfa Vista Plus from Poundland. It seems very similar to the Tudor XLX200 I'd bought in the past, but a bit cheaper. I wouldn't be surprised if most if not all of the cheap films have the same origin but are just packaged differently.

Really ought to pick up some more the next time I'm in town!

I once found the Agfa Vista 400 in Poundland. Never again though. Also been acquainted with the lesser spotted 36 exp film in the past. The stock doesn't seem to be readily available any more though. The one near me always seems to be sold out at the moment when it never was before.

Cheapest c-41 films available here in the Philippines ranges from 35-50 pesos per roll. That is easily more or less $1 each.

I picked up some 400 last week and it is in quite often in Chesterfield store, I think the 400 is nicer

The stuff from macodirect is indeed the same as Paradies 200 from the DM drugstore (also available at the Rossmann drugstores for less than 1€). It is rebranded Fuji, most likely C200 as this the cheapest Fuji available.
