Bronica ETRSi metered prism
« on: September 25, 2014, 08:24:18 AM »
Hey everyone,

I'm back! Building a house and actually moving in, is much more work than I thought. ::)

Now to my question: I'm looking for a metered prism for my Bronica ETRSi. If I'm right, I can either use the AEII or the AEIII prism. But what's the difference between those two? The AEIII seems to be much more expensive than the AEII. I wonder if it's worth getting the AEIII or if the AEII is just fine?

Don't know really what's the difference, but nevertheless get AEIII. It's newer. AEII by now will have very faint display. I can't read my anymore.
The only difference I know is, that AEII even when turned off will still drain the battery. With AEIII this problem was resolved.

I just recall my old copy of the AEIII was ever so slightly darker than the AEII. IIRC finder displays uses LED in the AEII, LCD in AEIII.

IIRC the AE III finder has a built-in diopter adjustment as well as spot metering.

(wow -- could it be I actually contributed something useful to this blog?)

I got an ETRSi a few weeks ago (with the AE II meter), but haven't had a lot of time to shoot with it.

I've shot maybe a hundred or more rolls with my ETRSI with the AEII, and it's performed great. I'll point the camera around and make sure I'm metering correctly, but usually it does a great job. In the colder months I keep the battery out of the camera if it's going to sit for a while, and I always keep an extra on hand just in case. I believe there is a battery check button to make sure there's still juice, but of course it could end up draining after a shot or two if the battery is ready to give up the ghost. I usually give my batteries a year or so before I replace them jus to be safe. The camera defaults to 1/500th if the power is exhausted. I've even checked my in-camera metering with an older Zeiss light meter I have and the two are almost always spot on so if you want to dump more bucks into film you could even spring for the non-metered prism if you had to. Depends on what you're shooting I guess.

Thanks guys, I've now reserved an AEIII prism from Ffordes and I've sent of a few things to them in exchange. I wanted a metered prism, because I normally go out with the kids and having an external meter dangling around my neck is just too much. :)
