Polaroid 545 troubles
« on: July 06, 2014, 06:30:36 PM »
Hi all,

I recently got myself a polaroid 545 holder and 2 old packs of polaroid ( type 55, type 59). I tried several times now to get a shot with both types of film, but it only worked the first time. After that I found I always pulled out the complete pack (envelope + film) not only the envelope before the exposure. Somehow the envelope stuck to the film and did not release it. I already tried bending around on the metal rim at the bottom to make it stick out more in the hope it will catch more easily on the hook in the holder, but it didn't work.

I am wondering if I am doing it wrong, if the film got too sticky over time or if the holder is no good. Below I'm posting a little macro of the holder hook (sorry it is digital). It does extend a little (maybe 1mm?), but maybe it should stick out more in the load mode?

I already wasted quite a few slides  :-[ and appreciate any help or suggestions.

Thanks!
Manuel

Have you tried opening it to see if there isn't a piece of trim stuck inside the holder?
I know it sounds stupid but that was a big part of the trouble with mine.

Ass you have to do is pry off the two side rails (they're actually spring metal) and you gain access to the entire inner working.
The rails just snap back on.

Film is the vinyl record of photography.

Yes as francois says make sure there is not a clip from a previous shot stuck. The sk grimes
Website has a good guide to take the back apart.

Also, sometimes if the film us very expired the neg sticks to the envelope, you can fix that by flexing the envelope but in my experience thr film doesnt like that.

I'd bet its an old Clip.

I'm a new 545 user too and have wasted a few shots, it hurts!

When the film locks in properly it gives an audible click.

Good luck.

Looking at the pic I think you can even see the clip in there...

Thanks all!
You are right. It was a clip stuck in the holder. I got it out. :)

I have 5 Polaroid holders and I have given up on all but the 545i's.  They seem to give me the best luck because they have 2 'clips', not one.  And on note of the film sticking, I know I'd posted a video showing how to take a polaroid sheet into the darkroom (or changing tent), disassemble, unstick the film from the envelope sleeve, reassemble and use.  I have a box of T55 that I'd almost thrown out and i'm going to give it a go and see if I can salvage!
