More from MS Optical
« on: July 02, 2014, 10:30:53 PM »
This is one of those things that for some reason gets my saliva glands working overtime.
Now, for those who are not part of the Leica Fanclub, MS Optical is a Japanese company that produces low volume hand built lenses for the famous German brand.
Now, their specialty is small and usually odd optics that perform flawlessly. Well, I think that this time Mr. Sadayasu Miyazaki outdid himself. While this lens is just a triplet that opens at f/4, it shines in other ways.

Now Tintin... what about giving that M5 some accessories?  ;D

I had the converted Contax G 21mm and have the 35mm version, it broke down after a cupel of weeks use and are going back to Japan when I get around to post it. IQ is ok, size are perfect!
Really want the 28mm and the 50mm collapsible ohh and the 50/1.1 and... yea - all of them pleas. Also seriousley considering to ship over a broken Yashica T4 to get the lens converted and use it on my CL. Proper pocket camera  ;) MS Optical is just cool and pretty accessible price wise.

That is amazing. And I thought my CV 21mm f4 was compact! Cannot see spending $656, not in my budget. However it seems reasonable for a limited production lens.

Now here is what I think would be neat. If the company that makes the little Slim Devil camera, with it's 22mm, 2 element plastic lens would recompute that lens for a flat field (in the Slim Devil the film plane is curved) and mount it in a plastic Leica M body cap as a fixed focus "fun lens" that would sell for no more than $30. If they added a plastic, 2 element shoe mount aux. viewfinder they could ask $40 for the combo.

The MS optical guy can also often do custom mount lenses. Say you want to use that lens from an old wide angle 35mm or APS point and shoot and want to for some reason put it on a M mount, it can be done.

That´s my idea for the Yashica T4 that had a unfortunate meeting with the workshop floor. Love the little lens and MS can mount and make it rangfinder cupeled for the price of a Voigtlander 35/2.5 just a hell of a lot more compact. The 3d pop of the little lens is phenomenal.
