weekend 30 May
« on: May 30, 2014, 03:34:38 AM »
It's been more than awhile since I've posted.  I moved to Nagasaki, Japan in December and sold much of my gear to finance the move  :)

Shooting now with a Contax Tvs, Seagull 203, polaroid 250, and (oh my - a fuji x100), here's a few from the Contax that were developed this week.

Two more from my test roll of HP5+ in Caffenol C-H(RS), Canon P with Canon 50/1.5, both shots are wide open.

and a man who thinks his equipment is going to see for him is not going to get much of anything.

First time using my new Ricoh Mirai 105. First time using some Arista Ultra 400. And for some reason I really overcooked it!

I love paul's battersea power station shot, when I worked in London about 10 years ago I used to take the train to victoria and that's what I saw every single time, fond memories.... :'(

Been crazy busy last couple of weeks only managed to shoot a single roll of FP4+ in my AE-1 (just a 24 exp) souped in Xtol stock for 8 min.  even had to finish the roll it with some "product shots" and what better then to shoot then a bottle of beer  ;D Never used FP4+ before so I bought a brick to get familiar with it and I must say I like it!

Peugeot are no longer common in the states... I don't think they ever were. Met the proud owner of a Peugeot 505 estate wagon. She was feeding the meter and was surprised and delighted by my interest. She was in a hurry, was unable to get a photo with the owner.

From my recently overhauled Pen F with the 40mm f1.4 & my last roll of Double X from Tintin.

Re Francois & Ricoh Mirai 105 - How does it handle? I have wondered about the Mirai 105's twin, the Olympus Infinity Super Zoom 330. I've come across those a few times in thrift stores and job lots on ebay and I kind of like their chunkiness.

It actually handles incredibly nice. The way its designed you have to use both hands to hold it. The right hand gets the old camcorder like grip with the shutter button on the index finger. The left hand uses a more regular SLR approach and works the zoom. This makes the grip surprisingly steady. While the buttons on the back are quite small, they have some interesting functions. One does ±2 stop exposure compensation, one does zone focus for those times when the autofocus has a hard time locking on, the third is for all the flash features and the last one is for the various self timers, multi exposure and motor drive modes. There's also a reset button and a date back. The best thing about the flash is that it remembers which mode it was on when you turn off the camera. It works with two CR123 batteries (from memory). It's also got the viewfinder on the right side, something that is perfect for left eye shooters like me.
Overall, I must say it's one of my favorite point & shoots.

BTW, what an ugly stuffed thing you found...

Ha! Yes, he was in a cabinet on the way out of the prehistoric beasts / dinosaur hall at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto. Ugly and kind of unloved. I'm sure some curator found him in a back vault and decided to slot him into a cabinet in a room to which he was barely germane to in order to terrify children. I have a weakness for old & revolting taxidermy which is only tempered by my wife's utter revulsion for it...

I'll definitely have to pick one of those Mirai 105s or its Oly twin next I spot one. Sounds like fun. Not like I need anymore "fun" cameras though!

Thanks Jack and Hookstrapped.  I wish I knew you where there in advance Jack.  Unfortunately I only had one weekend off work during the two weeks I was there.  Thanks to the midnight sun I was able to go out after work and shoot some film.  That road trip to Hatcher Pass was done in the evening after work.

Went up a volcano with a Toyo D45M, only took two scenes, four photos, two color, two black and white. The color still waiting to be processed later. First scene in BW was a total wash, totally cement paste. the second one, OK.

This is me testing out the camera still, nothing really "cleaned" until I do more. Also the sun is pretty much on the upper right as it was taken about 2 PM, EI at 100, and f 32 @1/30 on Ilford FP4+ semi stand in Adonal 1:100.

Wanted to take photos of rocks, here's some rocks.

I wasted 2 whole rolls of Tri-X in 2.5 hours yesterday without even leaving my neighborhood! And in the process I discovered a couple of side streets I'd never been down before in the 10 years I've lived here. Even came out with 17 keepers! :D

This door is one that I've passed many times before, and didn't think this would even come out very interesting, but actually it's my favorite out of both rolls.
