Print Circle #9 - receipt thread
« on: March 10, 2014, 10:25:42 AM »
Hi all

the print circle addresses have now been circulated. Please post your receipt messages here, and a scan of the print if you like.

A few points:

1. If you were expecting an address and haven't had a message from me, get in touch via PM.

2. If after a reasonable time you haven't received a print, let me know and I'll put you in touch with the person who was asked to send to you.

Thanks to everyone who took part this time. I think we had a record number of participants.

:)

I received my package today from Carl Radford. First up was a very attractive tulip study (always a good subject) with interesting shapes formed by the stems and good window light. Then surprisingly two metal rectangles followed the print out of the packet. I'm showing my complete ignorance of alternative processes here, but I presume they are tintypes. This was really interesting for me as I'd never seen a tintype "in the flesh" - or should I say in the metal.

If I have another twenty years of practice with silver gelatin printing then I might move on to alternative processes !

Thanks to Carl for generously sharing his artworks in this way.

A fortunate first by the sound of it, Kevin.  Well, I did manage to get one into the post today, and I'm glad to say that I was able to send a decent darkroom print of my own doing.  I just hope I managed to print the address clearly enough, or who knows where it might end up.  ::)

Hi,

I received 3 fantastic prints from Andrea today.  :) Thanks a lot Andrea! They will find a place on the wall.
The postman didn't care for the "do not fold" notice on the package, but I'll get them flattened out and scan them.
I haven't sent my own prints yet, will try to do it by end of the week - guilty conscience is knocking...  :-[

I've received a fantastic print from Jon Butler. Taken with a view camera (hurrah!) it's a picture of a Greek island, beautifully printed and toned. I like it so much, it's going up on the wall in my study - a place where none of my own images reside.

Thanks, Jon.

You are most welcome! Indeed they are two bonus 'reject' tintypes. The varnish is very slightly dull but I never had the heart to bin them as they are still great little things :-)

I finally got around to scanning the pictures I got from Andrea.  :D
(one is a bit cut off as it was larger than my scanner)
Thanks again for the fantastic photos Andrea!

I just got LD's beautiful panoramic print on metallic paper this morning in my mailbox.
It's the very first time I get my hands on Endura Metallic... and it is quite something.

Makes me want to print everything on this stuff  :-\

One thing's for sure, I'll definitely find a place for it in the house :)

Hey Francois.  Glad it arrived okay.

I was really taken with Endura Matallic when I saw it - but I think it probably lends itself to photos of metallic objects more than anything.  Might be interesting to do a portrait with it and maybe a dusk / dawn scene.  However, I don't imagine it being suitable for everything.

Best regards,  Paul.

I can imagine using it for anything that has colors that pop.
Or maybe even some X-pro scenes, or anything that looks a bit sci-fi...

I have used it before, for black and white. I remember talking to the lab technician and he said on certain images it really gives a strong metallic effect and on others not so much. I would suspect paul could be onto something there, obviously whites and blacks are not going to show too muck metallic effect but its in the mid tones where the magic lies...

It's definitely a mid and light tone thing.
I suspect it wouldn't do much in the case of a low-key image.

Hi Andrea, the blue bit was on the print, although the scan brought it out a bit more (on the print it is almost not noticeable). Not sure if the way the postman treated the photos had anything to do with it - but I actually quite like it.

Have you ever seen any of the dusk / evening scenes that Gregory Crewdson sets up? His work would look stunning on this paper.  Anything with street lighting, neon, reflections, metallic object and especially blue coloured items (some of the exhibition shots at Printspace that used this paper had a lot of blue in them) seems to work really well. I'm definitely going to pick a couple of shots and have them printed on it for myself.

Received an excellent print from Owlsflight of a generating unit within the derelict Richmond generating Station and an article on the history of the station.
Thanks Kevin your choice of subject matter this seems a coincidence to me as I spent my working life in the power distribution industry working in similar environments, now I just work a couple of months a year in the industry as a technical trainer.

Thank you indeed, Paul (Mitchell), I am over myself with joy of being on the receiving end of one of your prints. I have to say the print of The Cobb is astoundingly beautiful, and thank you for the Polaroid transfer too, I will be framing them both.

Thanks to Kevin Allan, I now have a lovely new photo on my wall. This is perfect. We were looking for something for a certain blank spot, but the stuff I usually shoot is just too grungy. Framed it up in some recycled wood from an old door. I think it fits nicely. Thanks again.

Came home from lunch today to discover that I'd received a very cool home developed and printed shot of a pier in The Netherlands from Peter84 complete with crashing waves and reacting canine. Peter also included a nice letter telling me more about the print and the setting. Thank you Peter, I like both the print and letter very much. And thank you Leon for organizing this print circle.

Print arrived today. Well it actually arrived on Thursday but had been taken back to delivery depot because it wouldn't go through letterbox. Only picked up today after easter break. A great street candid image - very well seen and executed. I don't want to say too much or post a copy of the image as the project is being kept under wraps as it were. Suffice to say I'm more than pleased.

Wow - Lara and I got a package with no less than 5 stunning pinhole prints from the wonderful Becky (Astrobeck).  All are "made with various concocted tin cans and surgically altered Holgas".  We are absolutely chuffed to bits with the photos and I'll be getting frames / mounts for them very soon.  8)

Thank you so much, Becky. It was fantastic to meet up in Albuquerque last October and we can't wait until we get the chance to head over the pond and meet up with you again.

I am also on the drag with mine due to awaiting supplies from the US, it was a November deadline wasn't it?  :-[

Well, I made promises I couldn't keep about how fast I would get my prints out to my recipient  :-[  But the prints have been delivered today (I'm pretty sure at least - I saw the package just before I went to work but didn't open it yet so hopefully they are the right prints!) I should finally be able to send them out. I won't get home until about 10:00 tonight, so assuming there is nothing wrong with the prints, I should be able to get them in the mail on Saturday or Monday.

I still haven't heard from the person who drew my name as a print recipient, though  ???
