PHOTOGRAPHICA 2014
« on: March 06, 2014, 12:23:14 PM »
I know it's still only March but I also know how busy our lives are and how much notice we often need to ensure we get to attend the events we don't want to miss.  Therefore, by way of an early reminder, PHOTOGRAPHICA is scheduled to take place on SUNDAY MAY 18th at the usual venue (Royal Horticultural Society - Lindley Hall):

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.4942697,-0.1348335,17z

For those who haven't attended previously, this is the UK's largest camera fair and usually attracts over 150 stall-holders from individual traders to some larger, well-known photographic outlets.  The good news is that there's a healthy bias towards classic film equipment as well as all manner of accessories and film (both fresh and expired).

Previous years has seen many of us meet at the event and, around midday, decant to "The Jugged Hare" (a nearby hostelry that is prepared to reserve an area if enough of us commit to attending) for pies and beer.

Anyone up for it?  Please confirm if you'd want to eat at The Jugged Hare as we could book a space if enough interest.

I won't make it this year as I'll be just back from Italy - but I can definitely recommend the Jugged Hare pie.

I'm hoping to pop along in the morning but will have to leave about lunchtime as we've booked tickets to see the new Bailey exhibition in the afternoon.

Just a little reminder that Photographica is only just over a week away. Who's planning on going?

Every year I think it would be good to meet for some breakfast beforehand but I've not found anywhere that's open locally on a Sunday.

Lara and I will be there - in time for opening, subject to trains and tube system working properly.  Doubt we'd be able to partake in breakfast but we will probably pop over to The Jugged Hare for a pie and a pint afterwards if anyone else is interested.....

Anyone else up for this? If you have never been, there is more gear than you can ever possibly need, knowledgeable dealers and even the odd bargain. Looking for a difficult to find part or accessory? It may well be for sale here.

Great to see a late flurry of activity.  Lara and I will be there (hopefully) in time for opening.  If anyone wants my mobile number, please PM me with theirs and I'll send mine by return.

I've posted a couple of items for sale on the FW sales / trade board.  I'll have the items with me tomorrow as I'll be looking for a trade for something interesting. If you're interested, let me know asap as I don't intend bringing them home with me unless I can't find what I'm after.

Good turnout in the end.

Sorry Paul Mitchell had to dive off so quickly but keeping his missus waiting to see the Bailey "Stardust" exhibition wouldn't be a good thing.  Lovely to see Thil and his family, Leon, Nigel, Moiz, David (Zapsnaps) and a thousand apologies to anyone whose name I've missed.

I missed out on a couple of things I'd like to have found but I'm pleased with the swap I made. I've just got to get the MPP overhauled and then work out how to use the blighter.

Is it me, guys, or was it a bit warm?  :o  8)

Grr! I really need to come to Filmwasters more often; I feel like a total idot. I didn't even realise it was Photographica this weekend until I read a Filmwasters-related email from Jack Johnson where he mentioned it and I rushed over here to find out I'd missed it.

Typically, I wouldn't have been able to make it along today anyway as I was in the middle of complex domestic arrangements which I wouldn't have been able to shift, but if I'd got my act together a month ago and blocked out the date on my calendar I'd have been there. Really sorry for being such a part timer, but I'm glad some of you managed to make it along.

You see Ed, one more reason to drop by at least twice a month ;)

Oh yeah... I also heard that Mr.Cad had a ton of really cheap stuff to get rid of at lower than bargain basement prices!

(just pulling your leg, I really can't wait to hear about the incredible finds the guys made)

I was at a photographica but the one in the USA in Boston area a few weeks ago. Didn't get any cameras, just small little misc accessories including filters, focus rings, lens boards, grips and 110 format neg sleeves.

I picked up another little brass lens for £45, a Ross 10" f6.8. I can see this becoming a bit of a habit if I'm not careful especially as they produced lovely images.

Couple of trades:

1. 10 rolls of FP4+ (35mm) due to expire May 2015 for three working point and shoot cameras I picked up from charity shops

2. MPP Mark VIII 5x4 camera for a Nikon F3HP and MD4.  The MPP has missing strut and needs a bit of a service / TLC - but generally in nice condition.
