The Photography Show at the NEC
« on: March 04, 2014, 12:02:30 PM »
anyone go?

I nipped over, what with it being on my doorstep.

Looks much the same as focus... bit more of a buzz maybe.  very light on "film" - to be expected though.

If i was more oragnised I could have gone to listen to Steve Mcurry talk for a while.. that would have been good.

Had a good chat with the guy from Impossible...  exciting news that they have recently hired an ex-polaroid chap who used to be the head chemist!  So he said expect to see a new iteration of the film very soon. That said the new colour stuff looked very good so I bought a few boxes... still cripplingly expensive at GBP 47 for 3 boxes....but im a sucker for my SLR 680 and need it to be fed

I also picked up the Fuji instax classic and i like it!

im now skint.

Couldn't afford the time at the weekend and couldn't get the time off work Monday or Tuesday- otherwise, I'd have made the trip.  I'm considering getting a good A3+ inkjet printer and thought there'd be some bods from HP, Epson, etc.  I'd like a chemical darkroom but I don't have space and I'm not allowed to do temporary conversions in the kitchen or bathroom.....!! :o

I went on Saturday. Having not been to Focus for quite a few years I was interested as to how its reincarnation looked... just the same! Only spotted 2 stands selling film and Ilford were noticeably absent. Spent some time on the Linhof stand playing with their toys. Lots of digital camera bargains to be had but ended up buying a Paramo waterproof jacket ;) What's the point going out when you can't keep warm and dry! :D
When people ask what equipment I use - I tell them my eyes.

I wonder of the savings from the Harman pitch are being passed on via the 20% deal on the Harman express website.

Well, if the internet connection can't cope with the volume of sales, the business they're doing and savings from non-attendance at the expo are certainly paying off for them.  More power to their elbows as far as I'm concerned....

I just re-read my message and it seems a bit cynical. That wasnt my intention! Whoops. ....

I mean I wonder if that was their intention - to decide to not pay for the pitch and pass on the savings. From the small amount of contact I've had with them, I suspect might be the case. They do seem to have a broader perspective than simple profit margins. I do believe they have a commitment to their products that goes beyond that. Evidenced by their expansion into non-photographic areas ... which probably subsidise the ILFORD product range (dont know for sure, but I should imagine so).

Great services, good British company. Something to be proud of I think :)

Oh Oh!
Major faux pas...

Maybe if you tell her that it's going to be for taking baby pictures you could have a slight chance of getting off the hook...

It weirdly went under the radar....  was just left for me on the table... not a word!

Now... lets see if the instax and polaroid film gets past undetected....   its actually really badly timed.. i have a couple of records due to arrive as well... it all seems to happen at the same time..

You think it went under the radar, Damion.  My experience suggests that it's probably been filed away - just waiting for the appropriate moment.... ;) :o

Note to self: get items shipped at work and ask a coworker to drop home with the stuff for a cup of tea and let him forget the package at home...

It's either that or have the package delivered by the florist with some flowers...

Note to self: having it delivered by sexy telegram girl isn't the way to avoid problems  :P

Harman/Ilford - you are absolved. The order had been distributed around my neighbours by the delivery driver. 1 box went to number 21, 1 box went to number 17, and 1 box went back to the depot.

All delivered on the same day, by the same driver. I think s/he must have been suffering some kind of temporal lobe attack.

still, my flat is full of nice shiny black, burgundy and white boxes now and I am happy! The sun is shining, the weather is warming up (dont even need thermal socks today!!!), my fever has finally shifted. Time to get the chamonix oiled and polished ready for some action.
