My first blank roll of film!
« on: February 22, 2014, 09:14:40 PM »
Kind of surprised it took so long, really :D

What does it mean again when you can't even see the frame numbers? It was Portra 400, and I presoaked it in water before developing, and I bleach bypassed it, but I've done both of those before. The only variable was that I was using old developer, so I added a minute to the developing time. Last roll I added 30 seconds and it was fine.

Sounds like it wasn't developed.  Sure you didn't get things in the wrong order (fixed before you developed)?

Definitely dev -> fix -> rinse -> stab. I wanted to mix up new dev anyways, this is the perfect excuse to dump this batch :)

hope it wasn't any shots you'll miss too much. by your tone, I guess not. so that's a relief :)
by what I know: if no edge markings can be seen then it ain't developed.

hm... I've had c-41 die on me suddenly after not using it for a while. if treated right and without any air in the bottles people seem to just add minutes after minutes to keep it going. but yeah, sack it and begin a new batch of chems to avoid worries :)

Yeah, luckily it wasn't a "project" or anything ... actually, mostly just curious to see how Portra looks bleach bypassed. It's only been a week maybe since I used the dev, but I'm not at all conscientious about avoiding air and heat, so maybe it did indeed die a sudden death. New developer it shall be!

I'm a developing noob but I agree that the most likely culprit is exhausted developer. Or you recited the spell incorrectly ;)

Ah, of course! I recited it backwards by mistake! Silly me.

The magic spell goes
Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn, and caldron bubble.

No frame numbers would suggest chemistry problem, or the whole film was exposed to light

Was it clear (well orange) or dark?
