« on: November 28, 2013, 10:38:41 PM »
I'm wondering if this could be a young Fred Davies, this is a scan of a plate i was given tonight and Fred and Joe Davies's Mother and Father used to own a pub about 3/4 of a mile from where i live

In the shot it looks like he is playing billiards

I don't think it's billiards as there are pockets on the table.

He was indeed right handed but it could be that the image has been flipped...? Fred Davis was also the first player to have specially made glasses, they were on gimbals so they could be tilted backwards. He's actually playing English Billiards (with pockets) as opposed to Carom Billiards (without pockets). Nice find BTW!

Hm, this should be pool, because of the pockets in the corners, but not snooker because the balls are to big.

Didn't he have a twin brother, or at least a brother who also played,or am I thinking of somebody else?

I had a bit of a miss spent youth, my parents used to run a working mens club in Yorkshire and I spent most of my time playing snooker (we had four full size tables!). This was a selfie made in the mid 1970's. I regularly used to make century breaks and have played many well known professionals including Steve Davis (no relation to Fred or Joe!). I don't think I've picked up a cue in over 10 years!
