One Month, One Camera - Results Thread
« on: November 06, 2013, 03:33:59 AM »
I figure I would make a thread for us all to post our results with our one month, one camera decisions. I figure it would be an ongoing thread for as long as the month is, or possibly for future months!

For future reference, I put down my Leica and picked up my Bronica SQ-A once again.

One thing about this exercise I'm finding is that the more I use my OM-1 the more I love it!

I hear giant arrows kill quite a few people in Toronto.

No doubt shot into the air by the Mayor during a binge.

ugh. So over hearing about this. This is all I've been hearing about ever since it started back in may. (I work in the same building as one of Toronto's largest 24/7 news channel)

You get the crazy mayor, we get the Quebec Charter or Rights and the big investigation on the widespread corruption in both construction and in the municipal administrations...

In an attempt to correct thread drift, here's some shots from my second film of the month.
Olympus OM-1, Agfaphoto Vista Plus film bought from Poundland and developed at a local card shop with a one hour photo lab in the back - although these days they only do one batch a week. For 35mm, it's cheaper to get film done there than buy the chemicals to do it myself.

I had some E6 processed and got around to scanning. Coming from a mostly BW shooter as of recent, I have to get out and shoot more E6...

irb_b, as a fellow half-frame owner, you probably went everyone one step better... being it is a half frame you probably did 'one month, one camera, one roll of film'  ;)

Only really happy with one frame from the first roll through the M4-2. I forced myself to complete a roll with just the one lens, a 90mm, not the easiest of choices.

You've inspired me to at least consider getting my PEN EE2 out again - but I might cop out slightly by decanting half a roll for that purpose !

Conclusion:

One month, one camera has ended for me. I chose my Bronica SQ-A and I'm very happy that I did. I honestly think that my shooting with it has improved. I see potential now for a large body of work to be created all with that camera/format. I started to find similarities in my composition that brought the scenes I was creating together into a consistent piece. I think this has inspired me to keep shooting MF and keep with the square format. I won't put the camera down for as long as I did as it really does create the images the way I see them.

Some say that using a rangefinder will help your composition, that using it and shooting with it will give you different results. I never was always happy with my compositions when shooting with my M2 but when I get in the right spot and take a second to compose I'm happy with my 6x6 images 9 times out of 10.

I very much enjoyed the experience of shooting with my Bronnie for one month alone. You all should be seeing a decent amount of work in the future with this camera.

Love the posts, TinTin.

A change of view is often a stimulus for creativity. To that end, I've decided to "go pano" for a month (December) and see what I can produce.  Hope to have some stuff later this week.  Arctic temperatures and snow forecast for north and east UK from Wednesday onwards, so a white Christmas might just be on the cards.... :o
