OK, it's just another Instax camera, but despite all my cynicism about marketing etc., I have to say that this little thing looks very cool:

It does look awesome. Does anybody know if it's already available in Europe? The high price tag will probably keep me from buying it for now though. But Christmas isn't that far away anymore ;D

Looks good, the old instax cameras looked like bloody FisherPrice toddler cameras!

I like the aesthetics of it, it looks a bit more 'grown up'

Looks good.

Mind you, part of the reason I like my Mamiya 7 is because it looks a bit like "My First Camera" and people assume it's not a serious bit of kit....

Are they for sale already? I thought we had to wait til over the new year. My kids have a 50s each and love them to bits. My wife however wants a 90 something awful, or I will let her know she does.

What do you do with the images this one spits out?
Possible to transfere, salvage negatives etc. or "just" instant picture one could scan and print in larger format. If so, anyone with experience  of it? What kind of resolution are we looking at?

No negatives here, just the positive. I have scanned a couple for my daughter. 400dpi is about as much you can squeeze out of it. Printed at 300dpi gives a 30% increase in size. If printed in lower qualities/resolution, more of course. But in all honesty, the prints are best suited for albums or scrap books, not framed enlargements.

True that the Instax film is not of the highest resolution. I have an Instax wide which I love to bits.
When you scan the images at a higher resolution, they tend to become slightly soft. But the colors are just fantastic. If Polaroid was luscious and luxurious looking, the Instax are like Popsicle and candy colored. Very unique and fun look.

Wish they would do something like this for Instax Wide. Not a big fan of the mini film.

I purchased an Instax Wide a few years ago for my kid. He enjoys it, and I like the look of the photos but the camera itself as well as the regular Instax cameras leave much to be desired in the aesthetics department. This new Instax has piqued my interest though.

I feel this film is very good quality. It is the camera optics that needs improving. Years ago I shot a sheet of instax mini in a TLR, and a Instax Wide film in a 4x5 with fantastic results. Shot them box speed, (wide taped to 4x5 holder, mini pressure plate was enough) and reloaded the instant sheets back into the instant holders and reinsert into te respect cameras for developing.

Would love one of these but not paying $220.00 which is the lowest I found on line. If anyone knows where I can get it cheaper please pm me!

The thing I like about the Instax pics is, the softness is kind to middle-aged faces! All those lines around your eyes disappear - that's worth the price of the film.

I always thought those lines gave character but might just change my mind with age  ;)

First impressions are:

* it's very light and definitely smaller than the Mini 10, which is the other instax that I have.

* it does however look lovely - I think the trim will get scuffed quite quickly, being plastic, but for the moment it is great. It doesn't look like a kids' toy like the other Instaxes. I've heard a lot of people say they've been put off by that look.

* it is quiet - none of the grinding in and out of the Mini 10 lens.

* the bulb mode still doesn't make it very useful for night photography. The lens is still f12 or so and even though Instax film is ISO 800, you don't get a huge amount from 10 seconds or so. It could be okay for reasonably lit night scenes though.

* function buttons seem reasonable, but the "mode" thing is not very self explanatory - I'd like to know precisely what the modes do. I think "party" is fill flash. I'm expecting a bit too much from the "manuals" (vague pieces of paper in fifty languages) there, I may have to just experiment.

* macro capability (up to 0.3m) is more useful than one might have thought, because the lens is so wide that you need to be arms length or less to take a portrait, and previous models only went down to 0.6m. NB focusing is now "macro", "normal" and "landscape" rather than previous ones - not sure precisely which ranges these are supposed to cover.

* pictures are... Well, like any other Instax. Very sharp but tiny. Instax film has always seemed pretty good to me.

I haven't had any occasion to really take pictures with it and I don't want to just snap them off at anything, but will try taking it to work and getting some shots of the canal and people on the street.

It's definitely an improvement on the Mini 10, and hopefully will sell well as it addresses the "omg I am not taking that out in public I am a grown-up" issue, but whether it's worth upgrading if you already have one... maybe not unless you really use it a lot.

One of my colleagues just went to visit her sister who is in the Peace Corp in Africa. She took an Instax camera with her and the locals LOVED it. In the remote village where she is stationed, none of them had ever had pictures taken of themselves or their familes. And the little Instax pictures were a huge hit!
