Let's see some night photos!
« on: September 23, 2013, 01:27:49 PM »
OK, with the curtailing of the weekend thread free-for-all (probably for the best, IMHO), perhaps efforts can be redirected into other, more thematically organized threads. So, with that in mind, how about posting some photos taken at night. You may list your gear or you may leave it out - your choice.

Here's a couple of mine to start things off.

Canon P, Jupiter-8 50/2, Tri-X

Kodak Retina I, Schneider Xenar 50/3.5, Kentmere 100

Any man who can see what he wants to get on film will usually find some way to get it;
and a man who thinks his equipment is going to see for him is not going to get much of anything.

Recently testing Fuji Pro 400H to see what I could get away with at night.  Here's the best result from that roll.  I think I shot this at 1/15th around f/5.6

Great images, Pilot. I, like Peter, really like the boats shot.  ;)
Going to try something like that myself.

Interesting play of colours, Terry.

Here's some from me. Shot on Fuji Acros 100 35mm. Stand developed in Rodinal 1:100. I plan to do some more this winter with my Yashica Mat.

Great idea for a thread.  Some night shots from Japan.  Multiple exposures with a holga.

20 minute exposure, f11ish. Had this been any other film than Acros, then the exposure would have run into several hours.

Here's one from 2007 when I was still trying to get most of the image in some order of sharp focus  :) I had my Kiev 60 on a big tripod and was lining up a similar shot to this when a British Rail person walked up and told me I couldn't take photos without a 'pass'. He directed me to an office in the bowels of Euston station where said pass was handed over. I was then free to snap this late evening shot.....I was lucky I hadn't missed the light.

....and an even older one from 2003 shot with a Canon P&S during an anti-war march.

Finally, another from the archives. This is from 2005 and was taken just round the corner from where I live.

Which one, the first shot of the 'abstract' bricks or the construction workers? The first one is of some ruins in Croatia. The inner wall was all lit up and I shot from the outside, so the bricks are what you see through the crumbling outer wall. It came out as abstractly as I'd hoped it would :) The second one was just typical street stuff - walk fast, set the camera, snap the picture, keep walking fast...

Thank you John. Pure guestimate exposure. The light meter I had at the time was incapable of getting a reading. Way out of (it's) scale.
