Topic: I went for a stroll this weekend - *Story time

I was out shooting around this weekend. Decided to check out this part of the city I have heard a lot about but never seen up close. Walking around the main strip I stumble across a couple old guys sitting around a linhof 4x5. I complimented him on his gear. We sat and chatted for the better part of a half hour. Turns out he prints color carbon or pigment transfers. I thought at first he was talking about just bw carbon transfers but turns out they are full color.

He had 5 or so prints sitting in an optometrist's office a couple doors down and took me over to see these. I have to say WOW they were very nice. He shot those on a deardorf 8x10. He was saying that he has the possibility to print with full shadow detail. He says the printing process takes on a linear curve that is a characteristic only to this process.

I have to say I was very impressed with the work. And also he says he is one of a very few handfull of people printing using this process. Less than 10 people he said. Not sure if it was in north america or the world.

Either way I thought id share my story up here. I thought it was really cool to bump into another full film photographer out there. Shooting LF none the less.

Something similar happened to me last Saturday. I went to an urban fair/sidewalk sale in a neighboring city. I wanted to take a camera but decided for some reason not to (why must I listen to myself?). Anyways, I'm steering away from my original idea so... I was walking down the street with a big bag of stuff I had bought (including a nice book on New York) when I saw three guys standing on the sidewalk with 35mm cameras around their necks. How could I not strike a conversation with people who have a Nikon F3, a Pentax and some other brand camera just waiting there having a beer?

I struck a conversation. They were a bit disappointed that I hadn't brought a camera to shoot the event but still were really nice. One of them even told me he has an Hassy! They all do their own B&W and one of them even does his own C-41. This is a rare thing in the region. I invited them here, so we'll see if they pop-up on the forum. One of them asked me for my Flickr and he added me to his contacts.

I can't wait to see if our paths cross again in the future.

every person I meet that is in the beginning of getting into film photography I try to bring into my darkroom~ I've got many stories and a  lot of friends that have been hanging out there this summer.
