what I did this weekend....
« on: June 03, 2007, 07:11:54 AM »
As if the goop and stuff from Polaroids didn't smell bad enough, there's the smell of curing casting resin......

Front and back of my latest revision to the Pinhole Polaroid with results from today.
I used a bulk film tin for the front and then made a resin front to hold it in place permanently after making a stiff paper cutout for it first.

I added a pinhole to the drilled out hole in front and I was in business. :) :)
Polaroid 664 film

BTW- the guy in the band that appears to be blowing fire is playing a harmonica.  The camera has an internal flare I'll need to deal with (or not) later.

Wow! That be a pretty sweet machine. I love the blue resin (and that smell), but the wide result here is really nice. What's your exposure time with Type-664? Skj.

These are 1 second shots.   I use tape for a shutter and about as fast as I could lift the tape and then put it right back was my time.
No tripod, just propped on my lap or set on the ground for these.

Holy Moses, does it slice and dice too!? I am so jealous. I think that looks pretty darned cool and it picked up some decent visuals. I need an entire parking lot to do these things...my 10x12 room is just not working. Good for you, Beckers. You're a clever gal that is for sure...

That's very cool Beck, and I like the results you have gotten from it so far.
I remember I nearly wrote my car off when I drove to the shops one day, not realising how affected I was by the fumes from epoxy resin I had been making something with just previously...
those were the days!  :o
I like your pinhole pola solution. Now excuse me for asking a few questions (and sorry if this has been covered in a previous post, but I haven't had time lately to check the forum so am very behind... and I still have no time!)
q: what is the base polaroid body used here?
q: it looks like you cut down the front of the body a bit - what's your approx focal length on this baby?
q: what's the approx diameter of your pinhole?
That is all for the moment (sorry but curious minds need to know!)
 ;)

It's a Reporter, well it was a Reporter.
The  focal length is about 1.625 inches and the pinhole diameter is .011,
which works out to an f stop of 148 more or less.
The bellows started leaking really bad a few weeks ago, so I pulled them off and started dinking with ways to keep using the body part of the camera that was left.  (I had already been using the camera as a pinhole  since the shutter had failed long ago)
It was my husbands idea to use casting resin.  I had planned to use wood (sawdust smells much better than curing resin) and then glue and tape the living daylights out of it.

 :)
