Filmwasters London Meet Up: Thursday August 1st 7PM(ish)
« on: July 16, 2013, 01:09:24 AM »
Hear ye, hear ye! Terry is coming over from the USA and a few of us have arranged to meet him for an evening of Filmwaster-related chitter chatter (and drinks and grub for those who fancy some reinforcement). If you fancy coming along and joining in the deets are thus:

Thursday 1st August
upstairs at The Globe pub
83 Moorgate, London, EC2M 6SA

Tel: 020 7374 2915
http://www.nicholsonspubs.co.uk/theglobemoorgatelondon/

It's not the best pub in the world, but it does tend to be quiet of an evening (especially upstairs), so it usually works out well for a group who wants to have a conversation. As those who work in London will know, Thursday has long been 'the new Friday' however, so it may be busier than normal on the 1st, but crowds tend to clear out quickly as people catch trains home.

So, who's in?

Hi Ed.

Filmwastering + Good Ale + Good Company (and only a 15 minute walk from where I work) sounds like a no-brainer to me.  Please count me in.

Are we going to book an upstairs area as the ground floor might be a tad "heaving" (unless, of course it's bucketing down)??

Anyone up for a pre-quaffing photo-ramble around the City - kick-off 5:30pm and aiming, of course, to be at the Globe for 7pm??

Yes, I'm in!

Paul - I might be up for a pre-drink wander, I'll have to see what time I can get away from work. If you don't mind PM-ing me your mobile number I'll give you call on the day.

Excellent, this is shaping up to be the best turn out for one of our London meet-ups!

As per the last mini-meet in London, if I can wangle a job to do in London on that day I'll hang around for few hours but I won't know 'til probably the day before.

Good stuff, Peter. We'll be there anyway, so if you can make it that will be a bonus. I will cherish forever the 35 seconds we spent together by Tower Bridge when Deborah was over from NYC earlier in the year, but hope next time we can have a proper chat  :D

Hi Peter.

If you can wangle a day in London and fancy a bit of impromptu film wasterage, young Nigel and I are going to try to meet up around 5:30 to see what we can see.  The more the merrier.  Have you got my mobile phone number?  If not, and you want it, please PM me.

I was meant to be in Scotland working but it's fallen through, so I will most likely be around to join in the fun, maybe even for the preamble ramble!

Fantastic....!! Could be 5 of us (Nigel, Peter, Irv, Terry and myself). Please shout up if I've missed anyone off the list.

Meet at the Globe? Why not? Map provided already and a few places nearby to go and explore for an hour / 90 mins before aiming to be back at the Globe for 19:00.  Hope that sounds reasonable for everyone? More than happy to change if better alternative suggested.

I'll be stood out front of the pub with a brown Crumpler bag round my neck / shoulder. Not sure yet what I'll have in it yet but I have plans......

It would have been nice to make this and meet those of you I haven't already. Alas, it's Ramadan and I'll be hungry and cranky and no one needs to see me like that! Have fun guys!

Moiz: I'm usually hungry and cranky myself, so you'd probably fit right in, but I do take your point....probably not the best time for you. Shame, but there will be other opportunities I'm sure.

Sunny and 29 degrees with relatively low humidity at 5pm according to the website I've just looked at.

I'll be stood outside The Globe at 5:30 tomorrow night. Nigel, et al, hope to see you there. Anyone needs my mobile number, feel free to PM me.

And I'm a no-show as well. Not due to work but due to the fact I've screwed my back and can't walk or drive. I did it last week and was hoping I would be more mobile by now, but three visits to the osteo and painkillers by the bucket load and still no sign of getting better.

So, sorry and hope you all have a good one.

Sorry you can't make it guys. Looks like it'll be Ed, Nigel, possibly Charles Binns and myself. As per Nigel, I'll be looking confused and probably thirsty outside The Globe at 5:30.

I still hope to be there at 7pm.

Nigel - do you still want me to bring along those old 5x4 darkslides that I was going to give you at Photographica?

Yes! It was a really fun time and it was WONDERFUL to put another face to a name. Great to meet you, Terry, and glad that you survived your trip to Portobello Road looking for rough trade ;-)It's not often that I'm the youngster of the group, so that was another plus point. I must say the rest of you are all very well preserved!

I really enjoyed it, not often I get to go out on a 'school night', so a real treat. London was at it's hot, sweaty best. Terry, Paul and I wandered to the Barbican beforehand, took a few shots and even more chatting.

Particular thanks to Mr Mitchell for the film holders - that's a few pints I owe you Paul.

I'm always game for a meetup if anyone wants to do again sometime.  :)

One of the most enjoyable evenings I've spent in months - and maybe more. Pity others couldn't have made it as well but quaffing some decent ale in such company is the stuff of which dreams are made. Best regards to Terry - a fine fellow - and, of course, Paul, Ed and Nigel.  As per Nigel's note, I'm also always up for a wander with a camera - especially if there's the promise of a pint before catching the train home.

Dittto that--I had a brilliant time.  Haven't had such an enjoyable evening in many months!  And the chicken and mushroom pie was delicious, despite Ed's remarks.

I only said it was sometimes called 'air pie' (because it had a puff pastry lid rather than a short crust shell). It wasn't a judgement on the taste, merely that it's more of a casserole with a lid on than an actual pie  :D Anyway, I'm really glad you enjoyed it.

Diane: At this point I'm definitely going to be around to hang out on that date. We'll start a different thread about it nearer the time. Sometimes my wokr sends me off to various locations around the UK at very little notice, but barring that I'll definitely be there.

Sorry not to have made it to the gatheration but 34C in Londinium didn't seem like fun as I was ensconced in The Fox in Twickers escaping the heat and enjoying Naked Ladies http://www.twickenham-fine-ales.co.uk/beers.html.

Hope all went well. Another day- when it's cooler and more manageable for us cooler weather folks!
