New Rolleiflex for 61 pence.
« on: June 28, 2013, 05:54:43 PM »
So I won this action for a "New Rolleiflex 2,8 F objectif Xenotar 1:2,8/80". My winning bid was 61 pence. What do you think my chances are of actually getting what was listed?

Here's the auction.

It was listed on Australian ebay. The listing was in French and the seller is in China. He had four other identical listings. I'm thinking about 100:1 against.

Well, I'm more optimistic than that!
I'd say the chances are at least 50%... either you get it or you don't  ;D

Unbelievable! Congrats, Peter.
It looks like somebody attempting to pull off a scam, so chances of it being real are slim.

Since it's from China, I wonder if there are counterfeit Rolleiflexes out there?

For 61 pence, I'd be happy with a counterfeit - as long as it works.

If fantasize about this stuff - finding a bunch of gear for a dollar at an estate sale, sold by some dumbass wet-behind-the-ears anti-luddite who's never even heard of film. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you while at the same time cursing your good luck/timing that I wish had been mine ;)

Peter, I hope sincerely that you get what was offered. If you do, it will be the greatest successful bid in my experience of eBay. If not, £0.61 = a quarter of a medium sized cup of over-priced coffee from a well-known coffee emporium of American origin.

I suspect that it will be 'lost in the mail'.

Though I did get my Omega D2 for a buck (plus postage).  It looked like crap in the guy's photos so I guess that's why nobody else bid on it.  It was actually in excellent shape when I reassembled it.  In the end I sent him thirty dollars out of guilt/remorse.  I guess that's reverse buyer's remorse...

2 to 3 weeks when "it doesnt show up"

win ~ win

you get your money back ~ seller keeps his camera !

I should have done that a few years ago when I sold

person bid on the auction  :( and he was based in Ireland  :(
and he arranged to meet me  :(

What's the point of removing the listing several days after it's finished. Dorks.

Anyway, looks like I need to raise a Paypal case to get my 61p back.

It goes on...

Had an email from the seller saying camera has been shipped and asking not to start a case for a refund. I think I'll wait a while. As you said, Becks, it was worth the 61p for the entertainment and I won't go hungry if I don't get it back.

....I think the phrase "61p" may just have become part of Filmwasters lore. In the future items or situations can forthwith be referred to as "a 61p Hassy" (for instance) and we'll all know what you mean. Sweet.

None I'm aware of Deborah. He had multiple identical auctions for the Rolleiflex (of course he had five of them he was selling - who could think otherwise?) but nothing else since that I saw.

I've ordered from china and if it goes "ground" it takes like 35 days. I know boats are slower than planes, but I'm sure most of that time is sitting at one port or another...

I don't know how shipping from China to the UK usually is but from Hong Kong to here takes about three weeks in the best case scenario. Worse case I've had was a good month and a week for a simple lens adapter.

That'll be 24 hours on a plane and 3 weeks in Canadian customs then. I've had dealings with Canadian customs before.

If you think customs are bad, you haven't seen the postal service!
I can get something from another province delivered faster than a letter in the next city! And that's using the same basic standard mail...

But lucky for you, you don't live in Italy! Their customs officials open every single package that goes in. That means a two month wait before the package is released to the postal service... crazy.

I suggest you suspend your suspence as I think this has died a death. Seller has had both ebay and Paypal accounts closed and I'm expecting a refund of my hefty investment any time soon. I suspect that will be the end of it. But if anything does ever arrive, I'll be sure to let you all know.
