All info for my box was gleaned from various sources if anything is amiss please tell me
The apertures seem to vary from person to person but the ones given were obtained by measurements on a web site and so I think these are probably correct

I have this same camera.. America version and a lighter brown.. But my apertures are just the oposite. They are f16, then f 8 and f5 or smaller.

I have a no2 model D. It works quite well too, rather like the creamy fall off towards the edges. Mine has the f16/22/32 aperture scale, I have tested and measured it. This is shot at f22, ISO 400.

Diane. Are you sure? I find it difficult to see how the lens on mine could support larger apertures. It would need to have a larger diameter altogether. The focal length is approx 105mm, which would mean an aperture of f5.6 is in the region of 20mm in diameter. My largest aperture is just over 7mm in diameter, consistent with an f-stop of 16.

I do like my No.2. Mine was made in Canada, is black and has a key rather than a knob but otherwise is just the same.

Takes good old 120 film, so no messing about with respooling required!

Yes the no2 takes regular 120. Note that the No2A does not, and that a No2 model A is not a 2A, etc. This page gives a good overview of the rather confusing Kodak nomenclature and film/frame sizes etc. http://kodak.3106.net/index.php?p=510

For as long as my Brownie works I don't really feel the need for a toy camera, the little Kodak fulfills that role well enough in my opinion, and has loads of charm and history built in.

The key winder was from 1929 to31 then it changed to a knob

My No2 is black. At some point it must have been dropped !!

Mine is a bit worn, the viewfinders rather dim (mirrors worn), but it works just fine. And I can´t really fault the results. My wife´s great grandfather bought it new, and was used mostly by her great grandmother. A proper heirloom

As I said, it´s an early model D, it has the model C type rear door latch, the rest is typical model D.

fuzzyedges...pretty sure about the aperture thing..F32 would be small and none of mine are small in any way..looked at it a couple times and was surprised at the difference but the difference in fact does exist..I used my lensbaby aperture disc's to compare..the smallest of those being F22.....not sure why the difference...

Actually, f/22 on your Lensbaby won't necessarily be f/22 on the brownie.
The only way to know the exact aperture is to use calipers to measure the opening and then calculate it.

I am trying to find the site where the guy did exactly what Francois suggests It was also stated that it should only really intended to be used in the b setting to get good results

The number 2 box brownie has a f18 105 focus length lens The size of the biggest aperture is between 7mm and 6mm diameter on the aperture plate

The f number = focal length /diameter of aperture
f16=105/6.5
f11 =105/9.5 which isnt the largest aperture on the drop down plate so f11, f16, f22 cant be correct where as f16, f22, f32 is

OK Francois..now your getting too technical for me! I just look and see how close they look..but they are similar.

I dont know much about lensbaby's but a quick look on wiki says the focal length of a lens baby is 50mm about half of that of the No2 so its quite possable the aperture of f22 on the lens baby looks very similar to the F32 on the No2

The only way to know would be to take a ruler, measure the aperture disk's hole in metric and then do the calculation from there.

You can use a ruler BUT you cannot do it accuratly without removing the aperture slide
What you can see if you use the b setting is it isnt 10mm and its more around the 6 to 7 mm
To do it accurately you would need a pair of dividers

At the size of those lenses, a millimeter more or less will make for a big change.

I found a 2A in great condition in a Vancouver junk shop yesterday, but it said it took 116 film and thus lost out to a couple of bound volumes of the British Journal of Photography from the 1920s.

Yes, the No 2A is not the same camera as a No 2. Both cameras had different models over the ages, which can be confusing. The No 2 came i models, the initial model, and successive models B through F. The 2A also came in different models. The first model was just the No 2A, whereas the successive models were named Model B & C. In other words a No 2 model A is not a No 2A. No 2 Box Brownies are 120, 2A are 116.

What junk shop were you in? was it the one at the bottom of Homer St. at Cordova? I used to work at the photo lab a couple of doors down. You might have saw it while wondering the street around where you were staying. Hope you enjoyed Vancouver. Sorry the meet up didnt work out. I would love to see what you shot while here.
