weekend 14 June 2013
« on: June 13, 2013, 11:28:34 PM »
Enjoyed a wonderful performance of Peter Grimes at the Aldeburgh Festival last weekend.  Snapped a few polaroids across Snape marshes just beforehand.

Happy weekend.

First sheet of Ortho film, finger in the air developing time seems to have worked. Surprisingly eldest child really likes this image, certainly does weird things for skin tones. Not far off a wet plate aesthetic.

I've been too busy with work to shoot much recently, which is making me itchy - so plan to waste some sheets this weekend, construction has started on Darkroom version 3, which has made my wife very happy, and to be honest keeping some of the alt process chemicals in the kitchen was making the Health and Safety team nervous.

DonkeyDave, Nick Moys - those are lovely images!

Three from me.  The first is on the road to Paris (shot during my London to Paris in 24 hours ride).

The other two were taken in Paris.

Couple of French doors from me this weekend, albeit with slightly differing levels of grandeur.

Nice Fuji 100C negative, Aksel. I've been washing my own negatives too - I find that if the print is underexposed, the negative scans in just right. If the prints are good, the negatives are washed out. Kinda cool and funky, but washed out cool and funky ;) Here are some of my latest.

Fantastic work one and all. Love Peter's views of Bath and the awesome mono work by Paul Mitchell, Donkey Dave and Kevin Allan.

Mine are some scanned slides from early 1980s. The view from Snowdon is Kodachrome 64, the view of the cliffs on Skye is Fujichrome and the one of Blackpool tower is, I think Kodachrome 200 - but the weather was so poor that the muddy colours look much better converted to mono.

Brilliant stuff, all of it.

Went out to test my Kowa Super 66 repair, with my one remaining lens - the 150mm. However, have not had time to develop the film yet. So the two Polaroids I took today will have to suffice. The Polaview camera, with a revitalized Ysarex (been tinkering with it for the last week, and now it works). Luck however was not on my side, again. Forgot the ground glass at home, so these are pointed and shot without any means of finder at all.

Nick - was that the Peter Grimes on the beach? Would love to have seen that.

Here's one from this weekend a couple of years ago, taken at East Cowes with a Nikon FE and 50/1.8 Nikkor.

Some great stuff to linger over, blacks, whites, greys and colours.

I don't know what it is about boats, maybe just that there are few enough of the little ones around these days and they make quiet and obliging subjects.  There's also some admiration of the technology, perhaps, and the breadth of all those surfaces and metalwork.  And flaking paint.

This is an oldie from the south of Oman, one of the great wooden Indian Ocean fishing boats that go out.  At the time, they were all being turfed out of the ancient fishing dock to make way for a gas terminal ...

Fuji slide film with polariser, probably.  I hate slide film - wish I'd been shooting more black and white back then.

Citroën DS! I saw one last week (it's still in the camera). At the stop light, the guy told me that his car was just used for a big motion picture along with six other Citroëns. If you like the DS, keep an eye out for X-Men 4 as there's going to be quite a few of these cars in the movie...

as per usual everyones stuff is superb this week. donkerdave your stuff stands out to me as ever. and love your shot sandeha, congrats on the family friendly shot :-P

also Thil, digging your hassy work. man I would kill for one of them things but just couldn't part with my RB, no way I could justify both either.... danngit.

anyway couple of weird ones for me today. was severely bored the other night and decided I would just shoot some stuff in my room, first is an ink drawing I did a while back (well more of a painting I suppose... I dunno I'm not an artist.)

ink tree by Thomo_Stoneo, on Flickr

mamiya rb67, polaroid back, fp3000b... 127mm lens (as its all I have :-(

second is an abstract. which popped into my head after seeing something on a life hack blog. see if you can guess what it is... try not to look at the flickr title though as it gives it away.

also possibly some scans from todays motorbiking adventures to come. just to simple polas of bikes. my biker buddies are rather camera shy, which is a shame as I tend to lean towards portraiture...

Thank you Ezzie it is a little homage to Eggleston. For a few seconds I thought of pulling the tricycle to the front of the house but that would have been too much. :D
Great photographs! I love everyone of them. Here is one from a single strip of film which looks like the end of a roll. I think I took this with a camera of the same era as the plane! :)

All shot with my M2 and V/C 35 Nokton 1.4

Shooting some background plates. (with a canon C300 for those who care?) Ive got more from the shoots coming on some E6 thats coming back tomorrow or the next day.

Serious procrastination last night, so  I ending up making my first ever pinhole camera out of some cappa fix, mdf,  tape and a beer can. taped a pola back to it and and then made my first exposure. Ok, I need to refined it a "bit"  but this was fun. ≈0.8mm hole @ 95mm
Nexst will be a bought 0.12 hole and 60mm. How wide can one really go on pola and pinhole? 45mm?

Nick - was that the Peter Grimes on the beach? Would love to have seen that.

David, no concert performance at Snape Maltings - the beach concerts are this week I think. Staging looks fantastic from the rehearsal clip I saw last week.

Certainly one of my favourite beaches.

Following on from Nick's super image of Aldeburgh beach and the mention of Peter Grimes... this is an old pinhole of the famous Maggie Hambiln 'shell' on the beach there. The wording around the edge is a short extract from Peter Grimes.
