In the spirit of Leon's still life thread, here is one for portraits.

and so the wheel turns - nicely done Moiz. I take it you intend the same rules - pics only, no details?

I'm not really a portraitist, but a few from me:

Great idea. I wonder what we come up with next :) I'm not much of a portrait person myself either, but I've found two that I like.

portraits are something I enjoy and want to do a lot more of, however I'm not yet good at the skills of getting people to 'pose' and making them look natural... here are some of mine I am more happy with...

Well done Moizak! You were faster than me  ;D

I love portraits, in fact I almost only shoot portraits, of friends, relatives, strangers... At the beginning I would shoot candids but little by little I started getting closer to strangers and finally I approached them. Living on foreign countries make it easier somehow to photograph people you don´t know, but still every time I get my camera and start looking for people to be photographed I must push myself into it; here is a series of some friends of mine I shot some time ago.

Good idea Moiz. In fact I like the whole idea of themed threads like this since it gives me an excuse to look through some old photos I haven't seen in a while.

There's some very lovely work so far. Here are some I've taken:

Here is one I did in the studio. But it took me a while to finish the film off (shock horror!)
Camera was my Praktica MTL5B Lens was my Mamiya-Sekor 55mm F1.4 and the film was Ilford Delta 100ISO.

As many have said so far, I rarely do portraits, but this thread reminded me of two pictures I took in Portugal about 11 years ago. Pentax K1000, Takamur zoom, probably Kodak Gold 200 (but might be Fuji - can't remember.) The quality might be a bit off because I had to scan the prints (I don't have the heart to dig through a mountain of negatives right now, and even if I found them, I don't have access to the negative scanner until tomorrow anyway. This just tells me that I really need to organize and mark those negatives better.)

I'm intrigued by portraits but they make me a little nervous. And by 'they', I mean both the portraits and people themselves.

Some great shots here.

Phil - those Bath Abbey shots took me right back to when I started following you on 'a photo sharing site I can't remember the name of' - what was it? I used to follow you and James Arnold! That seems like a very long time ago, I remember thinking ' this guy is good'.

Here's what I like doing with threads like these (apart from spotting the 'togs who just cannot restrain themselves from adding technical details)....read from the bottom up and try and guess the photographer before you see their name.

On this one I correctly guessed Carlos, Sandeha, Thom Stone, Sean, Leon (mainly because those are the only portraits he's ever taken and I'm in one of them  ;) ) and Donkey Dave.

Big Paul: I really, really like your photo of our Sicilian brother, Salvo. Top marks.

I may have a portrait of two to share. Standby for 45,000 thumbnails a la the still life thread  ;)

D'oh! It was a different threat so I forgot! *hangs head in shame* It took me a minute to figure out what the sin was. I thought at first it was my film choice.

Dave, those portraits are EXCEPTIONAL. The first is almost 3D and the tones are just wonderful. I presume it's 4x5 but what film and how did you scan / process it to achieve that "look"??

I did consider replying, 'Leon says I can't tell you', but that seemed a little silly - besides we didn't discuss gear, I was really denying any 'processing'
