I've been a bit Scilly .....
« on: May 18, 2007, 12:14:46 PM »
Got back from the Scilly Isles http://www.simplyscilly.co.uk/ a few days ago where we had a weekend of amazing hot weather, and celebrations after the marriage of my brother to his now wife, Helen (yes, my wife is called Helen too - we now have a Helen each - 2 Helens for 2 brothers   etc etc) on these amazing Islands.  It was almost worth the 3 hour ferry crossing
from hell - I've never seen so many full sick-bags, although many people were choosing to just use the floor - I think it must have been easier that way.  I wish I had some colour film, I;ve never seen so many green faced people.

I tried my hand at wedding photography, quite low-key though, not sure I would put myself forward for it again - why do people automatically close their eyes when I point a camera at them???  any way, here's one wedding shot and some slow exposure coastal shots.

You really have nailed this long exposure stuff! (Your thread titles still need some work, though...)

Really lovely images.

You're lucky it wasn't the ferry that goes through the Bay of Fundy. They have the highest tides in the world. Let me tell you, when you take a trip on a moonless night in one of the older ferries... you better have a good stomach.

Great story!   Really like the wedding shot, have done some weddings and frankly my nerves are not up for that type of stress, especially for friends or family.  The long exp shots are brilliant.

Another Helen Taylor? Brilliant! Congrats to you and your family Leon.
As usual, these are beautiful long exposures.
And a lovely moment caught at the wedding. I'm certain you're bro and Helen II will be very happy.

Leon,  do like the wedding portrait, i cut my teeth on weddings great fun but hard work, they are as much about organisation as they are about photography.   I am sure it will make a lovely print for your brother and his wife.  The slow shutter speed shots are very inspiring.  I especially like the last one.

Glorious. How do you do it? At least you're not telling us these are your rejects again... Lovely work. I must check your full site, as I am feeling the need for a large scale Leon Taylor land/seascape on my wall.

I could really have done without that thought being put in my head...!

thanks everyone - very kind of you all.

AO - I should have known You canadians would have a more vomitty ferry - you even do spewing large ;)

Damion - the drinking and making @rs*s of ourselves followed soon after.

Skj - I dont really print very large, but you'd be welcome to a medium scale version.  (note to self, must update the website)

We do are the country of extremes "par excellence"  :D

(though we don't do fun things like the cheese rolling contest in Gloucestershire...)

Tell me about it - I've walked the Capilano suspension bridge - damn near lost my sanity permanently

(though we don't do fun things like the cheese rolling contest in Gloucestershire...)

You think that's fun - you should try the Ba' (http://www.bagame.com/bahistory.html)  think, football,  rugby, ancient roman arena sports and general violence all bundled up and played out over a whole city.  Bit more adrenalin fueled than Cheese Rolling (mind you, I think several people break their spines each year chasing the fromage...!)

Nice one, The Druid. It's always good to see photos from the gang on the forum. The stand out for me was the first beach shot; well done. Glad also to see that the little fly of wedding photography has been dipped in to ointment of your otherwise pure artistic output  :P  ;D

I'm sure the wedding photos have all come out really well though ansd that you're just being modest. Am assuming the multiple exposures technique was dropped for the portrait work  :D
