I have found solace in my new acquisition

It's this little beauty:

Linux is like a wigwam. No windows, no gates, apache inside!

I have a Vito B and it's a joy to use. I just love its small size. Only thing that bugs me a bit is those strap lugs.

Yes, it's a fun little (heavy) camera. That strap lugs bother me too, especially as you, as a very resourceful guy,
haven't found the solution yet.

The neck strap from my broken Mamiya 1000s.

Not particularly beautiful, just useful.

Mine has one broken lug. So no neckstrap possible.
I first wanted to use the drill press to make little holes and put in them some regular holders... but I'm afraid to ruin everything is some metal chips fall inside.

I already have a never-ready case for it... but that's just annoying.

I've been thinking of making just a bottom part of a never-ready case just so I can put the camera in and hold it by the tripod socket. That would be the best thing to do, but I'd need to get me some leather and some leather working tools.

I've got the Vito B I bought at the photographica for £5.00 !!! The guy sold me as "broken" because of the sticky winder... a bit of Ronsonol solved the problem and I ended up with a alomost mint camera.  I agree about the strap lugs... they're funny but it's a wonderful camera.

Beautiful camera. I've sometimes used Gordy's tripod mount wrist straps [http://www.gordyscamerastraps.com/wrist-tripod/index.htm] It's not the perfect solution but better than no strap in my opinion.

A wrist-strap sounds like a way to go.

I love these old vintage 35's.  They are a great conversation starter, when you are out shooting.  Especially useful for street shooting.  Less intimidating than a SLR with a big zoom lens.

Beautiful! I'm a fan of the German camera design of that era. Not always ergonomic (my Zeiss Ikon Contessa folder comes to mind) but beautiful nonetheless.

The ergonomics of the Vito series is not too shabby. Everything is pretty much in the right place so that's a good start.
