My First Photo Essay Thread - Toronto Auto Show 2013
« on: February 19, 2013, 04:48:54 AM »
Well today I went out to to the Toronto International Auto show. I HAD to bring something to shoot it but what? 35mm SLR... too boring. Canonet Rangefinder? Not high enough quality... What about lugging around my SQ-A and a few rolls of 120 along? It sounded crazy enough. What would I bring along? Some portra 400? Will that be enough? Better pack some Delta 3200 to be sure. All in all I managed to bring 2 rolls of portra 400 and 2 rolls of Delta 3200

The show was PACKED. People everywhere lots of DSLRs and lots of Photobuzz. People snapping away hoping to get that perfect shot and pushing their way through the crowds to get their vantage points. Little old me slowly plugging my way through the crowd checking light readings and changing rolls of film. Only was approached by one other camera nerd asking which bronica I was shooting and which film i was using. After which the bronica seemed to start acting up and jammed shot after shot. I frustratingly forced my way through the roll and had better luck with the next. I also overheard others commenting that my bronica was more impressive than the GTR I was shooting! All in all 2 rolls of Delta 3200 and 1 roll of Portra were had.

I souped the Delta as soon as i got home, I couldnt wait to see the results. Quite impressed with how everything came together and I'm even more eager to see how the color will come through. I'll get it processed tomorrow. It will also be my first crack at new portra 400 so results could be gross, i dont know. Here's my results thus far! Im really feeling that the BW fits these Antique cars very well.

Thanks for peepin,

-jm

I'm not much of a car guy, but these are really excellent. I can't believe that's 3200! Very smooth, wouldn't have guessed it. Great job exposing, too, especially since the light in all those expo halls is usually that horrid cadaverous fluorescent stuff.

thank you! The funny thing about those lights is for the most part they seem to be fairly consistent. I wasn't metering very frequently, only when there was a visible light change which is pretty easy to see walking from room to room. Im consistently impressed with this delta 3200 film. My results at 12500 weren't much granier than these. It's a very under rated film.

I like them all, but definitely drawn to the B&W set.  They are timeless.  Could have been shot 50 years ago, as easily as this morning.
