My 52 roll project.
« on: January 07, 2013, 05:04:30 AM »
It's up, and I don't quite know how I feel about it yet. Not that I'm anyone to write home about, but putting your work out there for all to see is a little nerve racking. I mean I've done it before, when I had a pet portrait business, but those were images I created for someone because they paid me. These are images I'm creating for myself, and there's a lot - A LOT - more thought that has gone into them. Even more then I realized. And now I realized how simple and lacking they are.

Anyway, week 1, roll 1, blog 1 is up. I'd love your opinions, just don't laugh too hard. www.coyimages.com

I've also updated the header with my own images. I'm trying to make the header images an assortment of things that make up "me". The accordion is because I love cajun music, the city sign is in my small hometown, the Cafe Du Monde sign is an iconic New Orleans thing. I'll be adding more as soon as I schedule more time to sit down and scan some more images. I've got a lot of blog updates to do.

Great shots and lovely gear Christopher! I'm going to try and keep up with your progress over the year. Two questions though:

1) which camera took the shot of your Hasselblad?

2) which film and development process did you use for Roll1?

Apologies if I missed this in the writing, I was distracted by your images  :P

I used the F100 to shoot the Hasselblad. It was photographed too, I just haven't scanned it yet.

Everything was shot on HP5+ (120 and 35mm) and processed in Ilfotec DD-X, Ilfostop, and Ilford Rapid Fixer.

Chris, you might consider posting one of these in the Meet the Filmwaster thread? http://www.filmwasters.com/forum/index.php?topic=3299.0

I like the first one the best.

Here's a tip for shooting self portraits: Shoot through a two-way mirror. You set up a two-way mirror and with an assistant to stand in for you, looking through the camera side and some fiddling, you can mark on the mirror (with tape) a guide to what will be in the frame. Then you set yourself down where the stand in was and shoot yourself with a cable release.

Where does one find a two way mirror? LOL I would also assume that a two way mirror that large would be rather costly.

One of my goals of this project is to use the equipment that I have, and refrain from buying anything significant this year. I went quick, down, and dirty with these... simple set up, simple pics. I wish I would have had something like a reflector to kick a little light back etc, but eh... they are what they are.

It's amazing how much these little personal assignments make you think.

You can usually get them at places that specialize in selling glass. I used to have one for shooting still lifes. It wasn't that expensive.

These mirrors are often used in stores to hide the back office yet still allow the people to watch what's going on in the store.
