Film suppliers in the UK - A list.
« on: January 03, 2013, 05:29:47 PM »
Thought I'd list all the film suppliers I know of in the UK. Always worth checking them all for bargains so having the links all in one place might be useful.

Film's Not Dead

Sharif Photographic Supplies

Nik & Trick. In Folkstone. Worth checking out. Roll their own 127 and have a number of other 'unique' films.

Mathers

Amazon

Silverprint

Process Supplies

Ag Photographic

7 Day Shop

Discount Films

Fujilab

Calumet

West End Cameras (ebay site which is usually cheaper than their own site below)

West End Cameras

R K Photographic

The Imaging Warehouse

Morco

Speed Graphic

Mr Cad

Ffordes

Linhof Studio. For Bergger black and white film.

A really handy list Peter.

I've not used them myself but I'd add :

Thanks Mike. I've added them, well, except for Firstcall who, from my own experience has such bad customer service I said I would never use them again or recommend them to anyone and, so far, I haven't. Also, be aware their minimum postage charge is £7.99.

I've used Firstcall a few times with no problem.  You do have to watch the postal charges though.  To be honest the only problems I've ever had are with AG Photographic - I have found them very slow on a few occasions.

For processing, I've found that Colourstream - http://www.colourstream.net/film-processing - are really good. They have a  mail order service, or you can bring it into their place in Brighton, where they sell masses of different films too. Their website is really confusing though, and doesn't list all their services I think. I take mine instore, where they'll develop a roll for £3 (I have student discount) then I scan it in at home.

I have used Firstcall. The only issue I have has is that on a big order items may be out of stock. Delivery time can show as 5 days on the webpage but it can be several weeks. So it is worth calling first before ordering  to check expected delivery. The item causing the delay is usually something ordered just to get value out of the carriage charge.

I have ordered from RK Photographic both through eBay and their website and they  have always provided a quick service.

Just added Morris Photo. They are best known for bags and tripods but seem to have branched out more recently. They used to have a general photo store in Oxford that I used to frequent but have now moved out of town and do more mail order.

They also have a darkroom section now http://www.morrisphoto.co.uk/darkroom.html

Just added Ffordes. Haven't noticed them listing film before. Prices seem competitive (actually cheapest for XP2 120 at the time of writing this).

Placed 2 orders a week ago, one with Ag and one with Firscall

Firstcall came next day, after numerous emails I'm expecting my Ag order today

All to save a few quid? Not really worth it as I've had to change my plans because of it

Rollei "creative" films, crossbird, redbird and nightbird , kentmere and some kodak gold from Firstcall, along with a few bits of chemicals

And Ilford stuff from Ag, with some D76

Ive used both in the past and have been very good, but  Ag were hopeless this time

Added Nik & Trick in Folkstone. Wish I'd found them earlier as they have the best price for SFX 120 I've seen. Interesting Web site as well.

I had the good fortune to find a "proper" bricks and mortar camera shop, and wanted to tell you all about it.

Dents of Chesterfield was recommended to me by a friend, and I'll definitely be using them again. They have their own lab onsite. There can't be many independent camera shops still offering this kind of service.

Impressed, and delighted they're fairly local to me.
